ever had to use the warranty, what did you use the warranty for?

Frugal I have used bike warranties a number of times. If you ride long enough you will too. I haven't had any issues with the Viffer but with EFI, linked brakes and all the electronics this bike has I consider it good insurance. If you were on an 1100 Spirit or VTX1300 I would say hell no, skip it...unless of course you were a customer of mine. :salesman: I know how much you hate to spend money but for less than cost of 5 hours labor you have pretty much tire to tire protection, assuming your shops are charging $70 an hour. Only you can decide what you want to do but you better do it quick. :joystick:

The main wiring harness was replaced during the first two months of the extended warranty. The problem was discovered and identified to Honda customer relations before expiration of the initial one-year warranty period. But for reasons I won't go into, I delayed taking the bike to the dealer for warranty repairs until after the intial, one-year warranty period.

Honda would doubtless have replaced the defective wiring harness (many VFRs have experienced this problem) after expiration of the original one-year warranty, even if I did not have the extended warranty. But this problem sort of undermined my confidence in Honda reliability, and the extended warranty looked like the way to go for peace of mind in the future. I'm got an additional four years for $395......seemed like a good deal to me, given the cost of repairs.

Used it once bike needed a new Wax Unit.

May need it again bike is only charging 13.6 to 13.8 a little low.

got my 48 month Honda extended warranty today for $300. good deal but if I would of used the rebate coupon before it expired it would of been $100 cheaper :pissed: :pissed:

over the phone

Year 1: Shorted wire behind the instrument panel.
Year 2: Loose connector pin fried the main wiring harness.
Year 3: Odometer sensor, fuel pressure regulator, both O2 sensors.
Year 4: Got a funny knocking that only occurs when the bike warms up -- it doesn't sound good but I can't do anything about it here! Will get it fixed when I get back home.

I'm happy I paid that $400 to cover me until 2007...

Extended warranties make so sense when by Federal Law any vehicle sold in the US must not pollute any more than new for 5 years after the date of manufacture... so if you blow a piston... brake a valve... spring a oil leak you're covered for 5 years even though your first warrantee has expired...

This would make sense except for one thing. In order for a bike to pollute it must run, a blown piston or broken valve might hinder that process. The EPA guidelines are related to emissions only, not leaks. :)

not to mention the fact that a rear hub bearing....gear box failure...or a wiring burnout have nothing to do with emmisions also. im in a pickle because i want to get extended warranty but bike is out of its one year...thanks to hurricane i know i have to take it to the dealer and have an inspection done and pay more.....stupid me....thought i bought it in april

According to the EPA just gas evaporating out your tank and float bowls is considered pollution let along spilling any hydrocarbons on the precious asphalt...

On my 2003,

It sounds as if it makes sense to pay for the extra 3 or 4 years worth of added protection. This wouldn't be something I usually buy, but it really is pretty cheap compared to the cost for a few extra years on a car's warranty. How much and where can you get the extended warranty? (Sorry, this isn't something I've previously thought about until reading this thread. My original warranty will be up in July.)
