A question for fellow asphalt owners:
Is there anything special that needs to be done to care for the asphalt finish?
Any recommended products for polishing & waxing?
After washing with a light soap and water, 99 percent of the time i just dry the bike with no other finish except on the rims. As you probably know the flat finish really does not show swirls and other defects that high gloss does. The only thing to avoid is actually getting it glossy in spots. I use a carbon coloured tank protector to avoid polishing that area when i lean on it.
All other cleaning duties on the bike i leave up to the honda aerosol polish. It does a fantastic job on the rims and plastics (dash & windscreen).
I bought the bike black cause i like the rough look. :thumbsup:

Although it is slower than red, :rolleyes: I love the evil look that the asphalt VFR has. I'd love to have an asphalt and a blue VFR sitting next to my red one so I could ride whatever color suited my mood at the time. :beer:
Harley spray works great also, and is excellent for bug removal. Just keep it away from your seat.
Second or third the Honda Polish. I use it after a car soap wash, seems to be working fine. John
I also use Honda spray polish with no problems. It always looks clean in a stealthy way. I focus more on cleaning the brake dust off the rims, particularly the rear. IMHO the flat Asphalt looks neat next to the glossy black wheels.
I've wondered how well it will hold up over time. I figure if it doesn't age well I may paint it gloss black or dark blue several years down the road?

You might be able to just spray over the original Asphalt paint with gloss clear coat if you want to, and come up with a nice glossy black / grey finish. :thumbsup:

I was riding with a friend the other day, he was on his blue bandit and while I was getting my helmet on, out of the corner of my eye I noticed him sitting on his bike a rubbing both hands over the tank and faring of his bike. It looked kind of sick/strange/sexual. He noticed me laughing, told me he was wiping off the pollen. I looked at my bike, said, "What pollen?" and proceeded to ride away.

Funny topic here. Those of us with the shiney bikes try to not let them get dull spots and those with the flat paint are afraid of using something that might make them shiney. While I would never pass up high horse power with gloss paint, there is something menacing about high horse power and black primer.
actually, riding without some tank protection will turn it shiny. My jeans rub and that is exactly what happened. I ended up getting a new tank after a run in with a New York taxi cab. I bought that mag-knight magnetic tank protector (matte black) and it has been working fine.
I use Honda polish. I will probably do the wash and polish combo. I just recently took my fairing off to check some noise I was getting and let me tell you that I will never take that shit off again. Since I don't have my personal garage, living in Queens, NY, I was cramped and miserable and still didn't find that noise.
