well i guess now i can say i have crashed. and a lesson well learned. everything body wise is still intact, except for some skin. a gnasty road rash on the back side of my elbow. but other than that im good to go. was leaving the house to run to the store for my wife. got one block away and a van was slowing down and turning left. me doing what i have done many of times in the past just thought i would whip around the van doing about 25 to 30 mph. i lean to the right and there it is, a car in my path. it was like i went in slow motion and i grab some brakes to slow down back tire slides. in that split second i saw in my mind me flipping over the top of this car. then i do the wrong thing. i leaned a little to the left to avoid going over the top and down i went. my wife was hysterical when i called her and she came down and told them to take it to the house so i got to take a few pics.
Glad to hear you're OK! Looks like the bike took the brunt of the crash. That left fork leg looks bent, so it must have jammed pretty hard against that car. It kinda lends credance to the saying that most accidents happen within three miles of a person's residence, so it's really those neigborhood streets that are the most dangerous places to ride and where you should be on super high alert for the unexpected. :blink: Hope you get yourself and your bike back on the road pretty quickly for the summer riding season. :)
well not sure if bike is totaled or not. i must have hit the back end of her car or something cause it shoved the wheel into the lower part of the plastic. the wheel is going one way and the handlebars the other way. my uncle told me if it was anyplace other than the frontend being hit he would trust riding it again. has anyone else wrecked a bike before and had it repaired and it was as good as new?if its not repairable i will sit this summer out and let the wife calm down a bit.
As long as the frame is not bent you should be ok in repairing it by just replacing the front end and any broken plastic. I have replaced the front ends on a few bikes and had frames straightened. I used to work at a motorcycle salvage yard and we repaired many bikes that way. Im glad your ok.

You may want to wait until you hear from your insurance comany. Then you might have a better idea on whether it is repairable or in the totaled category. Although it's just my opinion, based on the photos you posted, there appears to be quite a bit of expensive damage.

Have your local bike store give you an estimate, your insurance adjuster will go and take pictures. Then you take it back home wait for the check to repair it and do it yourself. It is not rocket science. You can do it. Will come out ahead and can afford some good gear or new front end. Maybe a dinner and outfit for the wife? :D

It's the familiarity / lack of attention thing that has most crashes close to home I think. I slipped and fell a block away. Spin tire coming away from stoplight and right turn. Doh! :goofy: Although I think there was some shite on the street too.

Just seeing those pics makes me hurt. And bring back bad memories. I too had my one and only crash just up the street from my house. Luckily slow speed and only plastic damage. I learned to buy the plastic out of Canada. You guys up there get better prices!
Glad you are all right. I can tell you that I ride a little more heads up on this bike now. I'm sure you will too. Get back in the saddle and have fun. :)
once again thanks guys. and for all those who are wondering what i was wearing, i had on a pair of gloves, my boots (icon, luckily cause if i was wearing tennis shoes i would probably be having to take care of my foot. left boot got scraped pretty good. ) and my trusty helmet. no jacket this time, but i know i will have one the next time i ride. my uncle who has been riding for almost 30 years says he is gonna start wearing his. i told him yep its an eye opener. they came and picked up the bike yesterday and took it to the honda shop. i went out later and talked to the service manager. i asked him what are the odds of it NOT being totaled? he said not good. theres about a 85 -90% chance it wont make it. he said he will let me know in a couple of days after one of his guys gets back from vacation. he said if they total it and i buy it back and fix it then i get a salvage title and the resale on those are not real good. plus im like some of us and wanting to see what next years model brings. i would hate to lose my back side if i decided to trade the '02 in on a new one.
