i got my bike back the other day from the dealer who i bought it from. it still has 1 year of warranty on it and as i bought it in November i haven't been on it much to say the least. there is a strange noise sounding like a marble rolling around in the engine, not consistent with engine speed. Anyway the service guy says its the alternator and i confirmed this myself by listening to the engine with a piece of hose in my ear(no smart comments please LOL)and traced it to the alternator cover. He says thats just sound they make and there was nothing to worry about.so I ask is this the sound VFR alternators make? Also the flapper valve on the air box is not opening at 5500 RPM like is says in the manual, i know some guys have removed it altogether so is this a concern i should have? i figure its there for a reason but not sure what the reason is.
any help would be appreciated

Flapper valve doesn't operate when in neutral. To test it you have to bypass the neutral switch.
usmcdad are you saying that i have to put it in gear while on the centre stand? i disconnected the neutral switch. If so better zip tie the front brake i think eh?

No don't do that too dangerous. Neutral switch is normally open so disconnecting it doesn't help. You have to jumper it. I forget how to do it. It tells you how in the Honda Service Manual and there used to be a thread here on how to do it - try searching and see if you can find it - very old thread though so may not be here anymore. Senor Slam prolly remembers how to do it.
couldn't find the link and the manual just says to disconnect the wire anyone out there have anymore ideas?
