Mirror mount measurement?

This sounds a bit odd, I know, so let me explain. I took the factory mirrors off my '99 'cuz I couldn't stand the boots on the stalks. I thought it would be fairly straightforward to replace them with some of the newer 'exposed-stalk-style' mirrors, a'la the 00 and up VFRs. The only mirrors listed for the pre-02 VFR are the booted ones. None of the other exposed stalk mirrors (900RR, RC51 or 600RR) will mount up. The only exposed-stalk mirrors for the VFR are listed for '02-up. But I don't know for sure that the '02-ups will mount on my '99. Soooooo, can anybody tell me the measurement for the mounting holes on an '02-up? If the mounting holes are the same, I can just get some '02-up'ers.

As far as I understand, the mirrors on the 6th Generation bikes (02+) don't fit on the earlier bikes, You need the Y2K models (I think thats what they call them) but they were on the 2000 & 2001 year models. They are available as a lot of guys I know have swapped out the earlier ones, luckily my 2001 already had the non condom models. :)

Yeah, I can order factory '00 or '01 mirrors from m y local dealer (where I'm sponsored for racing and get a discount), but they're still like $80 for the pair.
