I just did the coolant flush in my Y2K Viffer and used the Prestone Ext. Life stuff because it is safe for aluminum and it contains no silicates. The guys at Autozone told me not to use the red GM stuff because it coagulated (?) so bad. Another place told me not to use antifreeze for cages because the water pump on a bike is spinning so much faster and it will foam up. Anyone have any info on this? I know the water pump is directly spun off the engine, but is it geared down or does it spin the same speed as the engine? Any info is appreciated. My bike looks like a parts bike at the moment as I have the entire front end off replacing the stem bearings and it goes to the shop for a valve adj. next week. Also, do you have to drain the antifreeze when you change the thermostat? Thanks.
If it's silicate free and aluminum safe, you are OK.
I'm using Dex-Cool now for over a year with no issues.

Why not just use the pre-mixed Honda coolant!? instead of trying out something that you're not sure of. It's not that much more than the other stuff, and at least you can sleep well at night not worrying about that coolant you just put in your bike. :blink:

Based on advice from this forum, I bought the premix Honda stuff from the auto dealership. I just replaced the water pump a few months ago on my '99. I was running with water for the track, then the cheapie parts store brand. Decided to go with Honda with the new pump. I used the Honda auto dealer because I hate the local bike dealers. Word is that Honda does indeed produce their own coolant, and it's good stuff.
