OK - what should I do with my flat rear tire? No, not the pneumatically-challenged kind of flat, but the kind of flat you get by commuting too much on straight roads. I'm almost down to the wear indicator in the middle with alot of tread remaining on the sides.
Is it more environmentally correct to take some time off of work and burn up alot of gas running through the twisties to use up the rest of the tire, or toss the tire into the landfill and get another? Or should I just do a whole bunch of slaloms on the freeway?
Jeepist - Sounds like you and I have the same problem. A bald strip running right down the center. Mine came used on the bike that way.
I've decided to recycle the tire (not landfill) and get new ones. Problem is I tried to do a search here for tire recommendations and wow, what a list. Guess I'm just going to pick one and try it out, kind of like I did with the oil.
Interesting topic. Motorcycle Consumer News discussed this very issue in a reply in its letters section. Flat middles generally happen when you commute on your bike on mostly straight roads and only make 90 degree turns as in turning street corners. Not much you can do to fix the problem other than buy a new tire. They suggested either purchasing more of a touring than sport tire or find a tire that has a harder middle compound and softer compound on the outer edges of the tire.

Once you wear out the center, bury it in the back yard with all the other carcasses...oh, did I say that out loud? :unsure:
You can probably check with a few places and find someone that will take the tires for recycling. If you have a pond, it will make a good breeding place for sunfish. If you have a gully, it makes good landfill. If you have none of the above, it may have to go to the regular landfill unless you have an artistic wife that wants to make a flower bed out of it. :huh:

Pilot roads, Z6, Dunlop 220's, Bridgestone 020, or the new Diablo Stradas are all higher milage tires with some harder rubber in the middle and softer ply on the sides. me I hate the Z6 but love the Pilots. 020 are old now, Dunlops too old too, the newest tire is the new Diablo dont know much about them.

I heard a lot of this dislike for the Z6. However, I never really heard the reasons whey they were disliked. Can you elaborate a little bit on this for me...?
I don't waste my time anymore with worn tires. They slip too much, so I just replace them, take the old tires to JustTires and put them in the carcus heap.
