I used a 30A double pole relay and just taped off the normally open side. Connected the coil between the license plate light circuit. By using the relay The fuse block is only on when the plate light is on, or just when the key is on. I fused the power lead to the relay at 15A and currently the only circuit that I am using is the heated grips, more about them later. The fuse block is marine grade and all gold plated. Right now I just have the grips straight to the Negative pole of the battery, but as soon as I can find a ground terminal block, I'll be installing that.
The grips where a piece of pie to install, I placed the switch on the front right corner of the tank on the plastic inner fairing (see pic). This location worked out really well, because you can't see it unless you are looking for it. I have yet to ride the bike any distance with the grips because it is like 75 this weekend, but they do work. As soon as it cools off I will post a review of them. They are the dual star inserts, chose them for the affordable factor, $30.
Future circuits will include a powerlet steering stem kit, RR ball bearing fan, Volt/Ampmeter and licence plate led nuts (I have no license plate light due to a fender removal).

Nice Post. Where did you get the aux fuse box and how many more circuits does it have?

Local Boat shop, $25. It has 4 circuts, they offered one with 8, but it wouldn't fit under the seat.

I like the location of your switch, BTW.

The switch is nice, easy to get to and hard to see!!

This weekend I installed a Kriss Amp-u-tron volt/amp meter. Very nice except the display is rather large. I put it in the black plastic part right underneath the left clip-on. I'll post some picture later. I will soon be adding a RR fan and a powerlet kit so I'll keep on posting info and pictures. The meter is cool but comes with alot of wiring, but simple to install. It is made for a gold wing, but with a little customization to the gauge cover it fits just fine on the vfr. Where I placed it, it is hard to see while riding, but i can move my head about 4" to the left and see it just fine. This did not bother me, actually made me glad after the fact because that is one less thing to take my eyes off the road. I do not know if Kriss still makes this product, but I picked mine up off ebay for $25 and the box had a dealer price tag of $195, so if they still have them they may be expensive.

i got a little carried away on my ride yesterday and let the road point my bike where it willed-me-to-go. Left the valley-floor; Medford to; Shady Cove (hwy62); Tiller (227); S. Umpqua Falls (28); Umpqua hwy (138); Crater Lake (230); (62) back to Medford.
Anyway, i didnt know what was in store for me, which was half the fun, and ended up riding 240 miles with 10miles of gravel road (what a great bike!) and ending up at an elevation over 6,000ft -- and it hit 30 degrees!! Just a little snow in the trees and along side the road. But what was freakin me was the wet roads and dropping temps - i was thinking black-ice would form within......how long? But within 20 mins the temps started coming up, and by the time i came back through Shady Cove it was 50 degrees.
i guess i should have headed to Roseburg instead of Crater Lake. All is well that ends well.

i did get a couple of pics and even a short video of the falls before my batteries gave up. i'll post if anyone is interested.

BUT; i started this post here in order to ask about heated grips: i guess Dual Stars are the hot ticket. Is that what i am seeing in this thread??
AND; i guess a seperate fuse box is a good idea. i think i wanna add an outlet for a heated vest too??
AND; what brand of vest should i get??

i'd rather spend my money right the first time, getting quality and nice function and small switches rather than save 10% and replace later.

I love the dual stars, very warm and quality seams good.
I don't have a vest so I can't comment.
Do an aux. fuse block and relay, you can thank me later, it WILL save your battery.

Man........ I am gonna enjoy these weekends off........

Put anti-freeze in the Goat, Installed a tinted windscreen on the VFR......... and added a Aux Fuse Box on the VFR for future accessories ie: GPS, XM Radio, and maybe heated vest.

I also have the Blue Sea fuse box but, unfortunately it is just a tad too tight a fit under the seat of my '97 so I have been looking at alternatives. Here is one that seems to be the perfect solution for those looking for something more compact.

I haven't ordered it yet as I have a few questions for them before I do. I just thought I would throw it out there as an alternative solution. My only concern at this point is that it might be a bit fragile so I would definitely mount it with rubber washers to give it some shock absorption.

That Centech unit is not the least bit fragile in my opinion. The case and mounts are stainless I believe. I've had mine a while but haven't installed it yet. I'm waiting for a stretch of bad weather so I can strip the bike down and do some upgrades.

I have had a bunch of inquiries on how I fit everything under my seat. PCII, fuse block, tool kit etc... So here you go. These Pics are much nicer, this winter I organized the wires and cleaned things up a bit.
