new WP rear shock ?

Winter issue shows one and states it's for VFR 800 for 558 pounds ? Can't find it on WPs website, sent e-mail, anyone know anything ?

Holy sh ! Direct fit to a VTEC ? How much and where ? Do they have a fork kit also ?

ScootR, I just installed my WP Fusion 4014 and it went in just fine. Tuning the placement under the seat.

Rides great sitting in the garage awaiting Pux Phil to miss the alarm clock. Yeah, I know, "It's great to ride year round here in TX." laugh.gif

If you get an aftermarket shock w/a remote reservoir, take some measurements before you order. You'll want to make sure the twist and length will land the remote just where you want it. I'm off about 15-20 degrees and I can live with that. I stuck it under the seat, rear of the cross bar. LE said he would adj the hose and recharge the line free of charge if I wanted.

First I'd like to give a big thanks to 04asphalt for hooking me up with LE. fing02.gif

As far as how yours looks, tough to tell. What I did was cut a length of clear vinyl tubing to the length of the res hose and laid it in place from the OEM shock to where I thought it would install. That gave me the approximate mounting location.

Then what I did was hold the WP shock oriented so that the approximate twist will be shown and that may show you where the res will lay.

Mine ended up on the right side with the hose towards the outside of the subframe and the adjusters at 45 degrees towards the rear/sub fender.

To get the res where I wanted it, I took off the fender (very easy) and snaked it through the hole.

I'll have pics later this evening.

Why is Mister Frugal suddenly getting into expensive farkle stuff!???
I've got a 4th gen and I never could get myself to spend for a new rear shock the likes of an Ohlins, WP or a Penske. Dammitol!, I gotta find a better paying job or something!

Troy, my limited education about the differences between Penske, Ohlins, and WP (to name a few) will lead all into a brick wall. But, these are what I used to decide which one to buy:
1. Called LE. Jim there is a very patient person.
2. Penske is the most adjustable of the three mentioned, however I did not think that I would notice the difference between 40 settings and 20. That being said, the price combined with "too much" helped me look elsewhere. Comp adj is on top of reservoir.
3. Ohlins has a nice unit for about $830. It includes a hydro preload adj but this is not a feature I like since I need to locate it somewhere too. Ohlins has the least adjustability of the three. I looked into using a model from a different bike to cut cost, but in the end I passed. Don't think the Ohlins can be adjusted.
4. WP had a combo of lots of settings, ability to separate the h and l speed comp settings, and ride height adjustment. It can have the hydro preload adjuster, but I choose not to have it. H/L comp adjusters are on side of reservoir. Just make mounting a little tricky. As others have stated, set once and forget about it. Oh, cost me $609 shipped.

If I am mistaken on these I hope for corrections.

Mr. Frugal, upon further review, your reservoir is oriented differently than mine. Your hose enters from the top where mine travels along side.

Make sure your seat will close properly before final install. I pulled the tail section off and removed the fender for better access.

Is the WP remote reservoir meant to be mounted under the seat? It seems to be a very odd place, and my underseat is full with relays, Power Commander, etc. I would have expected it to be mounted like normal - onto the subframe above the rearset area.

Jim - thanks for the info on the WP's adjustability. Of all those, the ride height seems to be of the most use over the adjustability that the Ohlins 46DRS has. The high and low speed damping on the WP, I would know where to begin tinkering with....I'd just screw things up, I'm sure.

$609 shipped for the WP seems pretty good. I found a place that will sell me the Ohlins 46DRS (yes, the DRS) for $583 including shipping. But the Ohlins doesn't offer the ride height adjust that the WP does. hmmm....

The WP catalog says there's no fork kit available for the VTEC... Is this from them, and is it really externally adjustable like the website says?

Hmmm, it seems that the reservoir hose is excessively long if it were mounted to the subframe above the rearsets.

I'd like more feedback on this shock from people. It seems like a great alternative to the Ohlins 46DRS.

I've been riding with WP shocks on my vtec for two years now and am verry satisfied with them.

A friend of mine works for WP at the bracing department, he fitted my bike with a prototype set simulair to the goodies found on the Ten Kate supersport CBR's!!!

Only downside after 20.000 miles is that i can't use the centerstand without something high to place it on because the has raised a couple of centimeters (don''t remember how much exactly but enough to prevent the catalyser and the lower exhaust tubing from scraping the tarmac during some nice sweepers

Can you give an idea of how they compare to an Ohlins or a Hyperpro? I've really wanted the Hyperpro Type 41 since they're progressively sprung and have three way adjustment, but the WP may be a better option...

On my previous vtec i had a Hyperpro fork kit (again prototype) and i was already astound by the difference compared to stock. But when you decide to go for the full monty the difference is astounding.

I believe that wichever brand you choose you can't go wrong and that the differences between them will be negliagable as long as you choose a comparable set.

My decision on wich on to buy will usually depend on the best deal, in my case this will usually be a prototype and free.

My brand of choose for this moment would probably be Wilbers, they seem pretty good and i believe you can get some nice deals on them in the states.

I just got e-mail back about the Wilbers...$516 for 1-way, $798 for 3-way. WP 3-way will cost $622 with a two month wait...

So are we ever gonna get a ride report or pics of this thing or what????
