Hi gang I bought my 99 vfr last January and she needed at new RR by the end of 2005.
I wanted to use an aftermarket one- and add a computer fan. I just did the job and it was pretty easy! I bought the RR from a local shop, it was supplied by an outfit called ricks motorsports electrics http://www.ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/ and cost 150 cdn,the local Honda shop wanted about 240. The 12v computer fan cost me 5 bucks. I simply drilled four holes in the fins of the RR and zapped strapped em together. The new rr was a bit smaller than the old one but mounted using some existing holes with no problem.
There is an open space behind the mounting spot so I decided not to bother with heat transfer compound. I got switched power for the fan from the taillight assembly using some easy splice thingies. They are the blue things in the pic. The second one in the pic powers my heated grips� relay. I found an unused 5v harness connector right above the spot where the RR mounts so I used that for my ground point...I wonder it that was left there by honda for just such a purpose? I could have used a small 5v fan but wanted to use the bigger one instead. Fortunately there was plenty of space under the trim panel. Wiring the RR was easy too, the shop gave me some fresh crimps and showed me how to install them into the existing plugs. Hopefully now my VFR can live up to it�s reputation for being bulletproof!
