As a new owner of a 99 vfr, my wife and I took the bike on a dinner ride. We experienced a fairly strong crosswind where I thought we both were a couple of bobble head dolls. The current windshield produced lots of buffeting. I don't know the brand of the current windshield, but I am looking for a good replacement. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
I have a 05 VFR fitted with a Zero Gravity ( ZG ) Sport Touring windshield. The product does just what I expected, but it's not quite tall enough for my upright riding style. That might seem like a contradiction; sport riding sitting upright, but it keeps the weight off my hands and helps with low back pain. ANYWAY... It was a reasonable price at around $80. I'll try a shield that has a curved lip next to get another inch or two of wind off my head. I'm 5'8". The quality of the ZG product was good ( I rubbed out a small scuff mark from shipping/production) and it was easy to install. I'll try the GIVI next...

If it's the stocker, mine had so much buffeting my head felt like a speed bag (for reference, I'm 5'10"). I switched to a Puig double bubble and love it. fing02.gif
I had a ZG sport touring windshield before it got broken by a tree branch. Changed to the D217 GIVI windshield and expected to have a different experience (due to the slight lip), but I was wrong. Same wind turbulence hitting me right at my visor. I'm 5'8" too.

I have a 2003 VFR and I'm 6' tall. I also have a Givi that is taller than stock. It produces turbulence right at my windshield. Not sure where I'm going next, but stock would be better than the Givi.
Just an FYI, I have a ZG wind screen. I'm personally pretty disapointed with the quality and fit. You can see swirls where they buffed the plastic, its profile is not curved like the stock one and looks awkward from the side, the seems do not fit properly, it doesn't bolt in like the stock on. I wish honda had a tinted replacement. If it wasn't a bday present from my son, it would have gone back.
I am having trouble uploading the pictures that I took of the windshield. I also did a search by typing in the key words "uploading Pictures" that yielded no results. If some one can tell me how to upload pictures, I'll do that. I'm 6' tall and the current windshield also has a lip on it at the top. I'm in the market for one that will make the ride enjoyable for the Mrs. If I can get her hooked on this motorcycle hobby that would be great.

I'm having similar issues with my '99's windscreen. I'm 6' tall, and when I got the VFR a month ago, it had a Zero Gravity smoke Double Bubble. I tried swapping the OEM back in, and noticed more wind turbulence on the highway. I was thinking of the ZG sport touring model, but you're saying Puig makes a better one. Hmm. I didn't see that they even made them (via Bike Bandit), but I bet my local guy can find the Puig.
I'm leaving for an overnight early tomorrow, so I think I'm just going to swap the OEM out for the ZG double bubble for this trip. Too bad, since I'd been hoping to shoot some video out the front. sad.gif
Can't say, on a 5th gen. I can tell you, quality wise, Givi or a stock sport touring screen, is the way to go. Hated Z.G. Cheap. I am surprised they can ask so much for them, and people pay it.
The key is to have the airflow either above or below your helmet, a airflow off any shield that hits the middle of your helmet will always cause problems. Depending on your height and w/s type you may want a lower or taller one. Just stand up or raise up in the saddle and you'll see that moving above the airflow from windshield will also smooth out and quiet down your ride.
Play with it and then decide what you need! fing02.gif
PS that is also a way to see how quiet your helmet is(standing up).
i'm 6'1" and i find it's not the air above the windshield, but the air travelling through the port under the windscreen that hits me right in the face. if i ride and put my hand blocking the flowthrough, no noise or wind at all.
which replacement shield stops that? double bubble or touring shields?
I experinced the same problem but the db ZG screen works much much better than the stocker. Im 5'10"". I know m-crew has the mra and it is much thicker than the ZG but over all happy with the ZG. Welcome aboard too BTW beer.gif

i'd like to know this too. if i block off this port on long rides it'll save a lot of grief. anyone know if it serves any function for cooling or ventilation of mechanical parts?
Rode it yesterday is pretty blustery conditions upto 85mph (was a little scared of the velcro fasteners :-) ), and the wind on the body was significantly reduced. But here is the contradiction. I am now getting an amazing amount of helmet noise even though the buffeting seems to be greatly reduced. My limited understanding of fluid flow made me think that the air turbulence causes both buffeting and helmet noise .. so not sure how that works.
The main reason why I got this lip was for my wife (we are both 5'9" and we have the corbin seat) since she stuck out much more on this bike than my older SV650s and we wanted to try something that moved the air above her and we will try that today but for me this is not a clear win yet. I got the touring lip, maybe the sport lip would be an interesting thing to try as well.
Since somebody mentioned vents .. I believe my helmet noise is getting caused by the gap between the stock screen and the lip as well. However I suspect (and this maybe true for the gap in the stock screen too) that the gap is needed to prevent air pressure from building up ahead of the wind screen and causing downward force on the screen. But then again, as I said, fluid dynamics is not my strong suite.
thanx for the update. doesn't sound like it'll solve my problem though. i think i'll try a windjammer neoprene helmet seal instead and see if that cuts down the noise factor from below the fairing.

That would help a lot, as I understand it. I'm getting the Whisper Kit for my Shoei helmet. Wich is about the same thing with the same goal -> getting the helmet more quiet.
if anyone has more insight please let me know. i'm doing a trip from here to northern california - around 1800 kilometres, so if i can get this fixed before then (august 15) i'd really appreciate it too.
Without knowing any better I seem to be happy with my ZG Sport Touring Windscreen. It would be better if it was attached in a more secure way. Right now the lower section just slots into the rest of the hardware. Also - it would be better if it were thicker and I'd like a finished bead around the edge.... uhhhhhh does this sound like anything else out there?
I think I have a nice bike. The ZG did NOT significantly improve the look of the machine but it didn't look like trash either. I guess I'm ALMOST satisfied. I will try another brand - looking for a little more protection and a lot more quality!
I really like my ZG touring windshield. It is way better than stock which I switched back to temporarily just to try it again. The ZG isn't real high quality but good for the price.
The only other one I have been curious about is the european touring version.
Has anyone compared the difference between the Puig racing screen (with bubble) versus the Puig Sprot touring screen? I have not seen pics of either to make a judgement call. I am 6'2", and trying to get into smoother air......

Since testing the standard Laminar lip, I've been searching and debating what to get for a week. Ive seen people say they like this then it dont fit quite right and the next guy says Buffeting.
I'm torn between laminar touring lip or MRA double bubble .
Has anybody got a screen and said OMG! I can see clearly way down the road at 80 mph now, and the noise is way down?

I could never figure out where the wind was hitting me, maybe dead on the helmet? But when I did switch over to a stock replacement screen, it hit me right on the neck, which is not very fun. Enough high speed buffeting makes me feel like throwing up. I appreciated the touring style afterwards.
