As cooler weather approaches, and I'm wiring up an auxilary fuse box ( to many gadgets ), I figured I would go ahead and add headed grips to my mod list. Just curious about the following though:
- Which heaters do you have and how do you like them (single temp / multiple temp settings)? - How much were they? - Where did you get them? - Did you keep stock grips on or replace with others? If replaced, which kind?
Dual-Stars I bought them at the link above for $30. I also purchased the Heat-troller at the bottom of the page. I put Spider Grips on, but I am tiring of them as they are a little too thin. I purchases some Oury road grips which are ugly, but I really like the feel of, but have yet to mount them.
Heated grips are one of those things that once you have them, you wonder how you rode without them.
The used Kawi ZR-7S I bought in March (and sold in Aug. when I bought my VFR) had heated grips on it. Don't know which brand, but it had 'low', 'off' and 'high' positions on the toggle switch. Great to have on cold days, but the switch was so easy to move I accidentally turned on the heaters many times this summer and didn't realize it 'til my hands were getting hot.
Doubt I'd get grip warmers again. Will just get some better gloves for this fall.

I have the dual star heated grips. I put the stock grips back on over them since I like the stock grips. I used the heat controller from the Hot Grips site. I was planning to use Hot Grips but I have a Throttlemeister and the two are not compatible. So I returned the Hot Grips but kept the heat controller. I really like the set up! I put a relay under the seat and took power direct from the battery using the license plate hot lead to switch on the relay. While I was at it, I also put in a powerlet outlet direct from the battery.

+1.gif Jason, I Will never go without them on any bike again! Happy with the Hi/Low switch and can usually run my summer race gloves almost year round. Down into the 20's & 30's I will sometimes run a insulated glove in the morning! I hooked strait to the battery through a $6 auto relay, this way you get the Best heat possible out of the heaters w/o added extra load to the already inadequate wiring on our Vtec's. Now just order the Gerbing Jacket Liner and your good to go! fing02.gif

Dual Star, ordered online from DS. Hi-lo switch, I rarely use the hi setting (racing gloves, 35 deg.) Hot and ground run straight to the battery, connected to a relay switched by one of the wires going to a front marker light. I really need to install my Blue Sea fuse box.
I was asking mq105 about his this past weekend and he swears by them too. Before doing this though, have him send you pictures of the switch he installed in the "European cutout" location on the right handlebar below the kill switch. Absolutely looks stock but sourcing the switch may prove difficult.
OEM Honda grips - wires are in the grips themselves, kit came with Honda brand potentiometer (same as the GoldWing system), which automatically shuts down while idling and restarts when voltage rises again - plug & play to the VFR wiring harness. Infinitely adjustable from off to "holding-a-red-hot-poker" high.
Cost - too much, but I put together a group buy to minimise the shipping and import duties.

I've got Hotgrips wired with "VARIABLE ELECTRONIC HEAT CONTROLLER" . Allows them to go from low - high with hundreds of setting in between.

They include the grips as the heating element is distributed throughout the grip.
Total cost with was around $150.00
Great Fall-Spring riding.
They are located in New Hampshire, so they were local and highly recommended by other VFR riders and various on-line site. Heck even the snobs on BMW will put them on their bikes. wink.gif

Pro Grips over top, with Grip Puppies on top of those. Everything runs through my relayed, Centech Aux Fusebox located under the seat... combined with my WarmnSafe heated liner, I ready for the coldest of Central Florida winters... I fully expect it to get down to 42 degrees this year but hopefully for only a few minutes in the morning...

Now, what relay is recommended to use with this setup? I haven't done any mods to my 03 yet.
I dunno what mine are, only that they work really well. They have a variable controller, which is great, and the grips themselves are part of the whole deal, with integrated rubber cable protectors. The grips were on the bike when I bought it.
Hotgrips on mine. Were there when I bought her. Didn't think much of it at the time but have turned out to best thing since constant velocity carbs. wink.gif
Dial control mounted where left thumb can reach it is great. Obviously "infinite" adjustment. In reality, I'm sure two temperature settings would be fine also. Rough pic of install . . . .

I used the oem Honda from the ST1300 4 postion control switch, they cut off when the bike is not putting out enough current ( when warm at idle)and then come right back on when you give a little throttle so no need to worry about it draining your battery. I highly recommend them. A little more costly than other brands but oem quality and the heaters are part of the new grips its a very simple install with a nice little control panel.you can view them on Hondas site just look under the ST1300 accesories.
Dual stars, used them today! I kept the stock grips and only have the hi/low switch. Low is good for 50's. High is good for mid 40's and below. I use my summer gloves down to 28 degrees if the sun's out.

Looked on Honda's site. Theres no pictures available on there accessories page. Anyone able to show pics of this on there bike? What wiring harness does it tap into? I'm amazed Honda has accessories that Plug-n-play into the VFR without listing them on there site.
