My 2001 VFR is getting close to the 20,000 mile mark so I thought I would put it out of commission for a couple of days to get some work done on it this weekend. I have been accumulating the parts and finally had the time to do the work. Ended up doing an oil change, Factory Pro Evo Shift kit, checked the valve clearances (all good), installed a new 16 tooth front sprocket, stock 43 tooth rear sprocket, and RK XW chain.
I also tried putting my Penske shock on from my old VTR, but just couldn’t seem to get it to fit. The shock is just too long, even with the triangles turned to lower the bike. I thought the cat exhaust might be part of the problem, so I took that off and the shock still hits the dog bone. Since the exhaust was off, I decided to put my ’98 exhaust on with no cat. I had the gaskets, but planned to get it Jet Hot coated at some point before installing it. Well, it never happened and I just put it on the bike anyways.
Now I need to figure out if it is worth spending the $150 to get a shorter stem on the Penske so it “sort of” fits, or just sell it, take use that money in addition to the $150 and buy something else like an Ohlins with the remote preload adjuster for riding 2-up.
So how lean is the bike going to run now with the 98-99 header on it?? I have a PCII already. Anyone have a custom map for one with a Micron exhaust on it?? teleskier??
