Saw that post before on here. Clean stuff in the mirror itself. I don't like the idea of running the peice of wire down the outside of the stem. If I was to attempt this, which it probably can't be done, I would have to attempt to drill through the stim and run the wiring down through it. I would have never gave thought to doing this to begin with though, so props for the creativity.
i hate to say,but........... the cruiser market has had that for TEN YEARS!!!!!!
full.. speedo, tach, temp, oil press, idiot lights.. all in the mirrors for an ultraclean look.. they were aboyt 900 bucks... and when the bike was off ..you only saw MIRROR!! the numbers were in red ,green and blue..
they were on this bike ,with the wires running in the stem.. sorry this mirrors in the pic are not them... the buyer asked me to install them and remove the speedo on the bars...
we built this bike here in 97 and took place first at easyriders cycle show in ohio. was in easyriders mag.. sold for 65 grand..
A bit of a follow-up here: My method of removing the backing and silvering on the mirror differed from the instructions on the FJR page. After taking the mirror out of the housing I taped off the entire back of the mirror. After locating the gauge placement and checking clearance inside the mirror housing I held the gauge in place with one hand a cut along the edge of the gauge with an X-acto knife, removed the tape where the gauge goes and had my best (read fastest) results by using a single-edge razor blade to scrape the backing and most (almost all) of the silvering off. After that it was finishing up with a Dremel tool with a felt wheel. YRMV
Sondance, Jan 28 2007, 08:50 AMFrom the post I printed out, it looks like dutchinterceptor did it to his 5th gen, and said he didn't think it would work on 6th gen mirrors...
I put mine in the left dash panel which I think works well. Copy'd the idea from sailcycle, but I can't find the post.
EDIT>> Actually I just did find the thread... Datel Volt but the pics have been removed. Check out sailcycle's gallery for pics...
Twas not me! Don't own a 5th Gen'r and I do good to put gas in mine much less a really cool mod like that one.
