Ok peeps, RDM (Rob) just piped up to say hello in the Welcome forum, after lurking for some time.
He needs a favour but is too chicken to ask. Theres a set of RC51 forks on fleabay at the moment
Fleabay forks , but the seller wont allow overseas bidders. He needs someone in US to bid for him and be willing to package the forks up and send them down here. The deal would be if you win Rob paypals you the moola straight away, and you pay for them, work out the shipping, then Rob pays you again for that.
So if you're willing and able to help out please let Rob know. Its going to call for a lot of trust by both parties, but for what its worth I've known Rob for 5-6 years and can vouch for his honesty.

Wow... thanks for the quick offers of help! Certainly wasn't expecting it to be so quick.
What AB didn't mention though, is that in my fit of Franken Fever, I am actually after a range of bits for the mod (the forks being the first, then triple tree, then clipons and maybe the rotors/wheel) so I am hoping I can amass all the parts before shipping them in one lot. Paying for the parts and shipping is not the problem... it's the waiting invovled with getting all the right bits first (so time could be a factor).
As for Paypal, I never realised you could use it to pay individuals (just businesses)... so there you go - learnt something new today.

FWIW I've followed Rob going hard through Sydney's Royal National Park for 5-6 kilometres and can vouch for his ability to bounce off a rock wall at 60-70km/h and be on his feet 10 minutes later blink.gif
Rob I was going to go down that path as well, but found my USD front end bits in one place. For shipping from US to Oz I can recommend www.discountfreight.com.au. You need to fill in an online form, after which they contact you. The guy I dealt with is named Phillip Abadee and he's very helpful. Be sure to specify the slow airfreight option as it's a lot cheaper than the fast one that is their default airfreight option. Or go with sea shipping for an even cheaper rate if you can wait a few weeks/months.

In an ideal world, that exactly how I'd like to get the parts... get one bulk lot including fork, triple, wheel and all and just crate it up and ship it on over. But back on planet earth, things don't always go according to plan... I'm just planning for the worst case scenario ;P But thanks for the freight info... will check them out. Discountfreight picked it up from the seller's door, all the seller had to do was box it. He was not interested in shipping int'l and said so in his listing, but I figured if he was going to pack it for US interstate freight then it would probably survive an air freight trip Down Under.
Only hiccup was that he didn't bother cleaning the dust and grass off the wheel from when the R1 was binned dry.gif so it was quarrantined and I was hit with a $70 fee for steam cleaning it. Watch out for that...
Good on you Jeremy and Greg (wanna sell your SP2 front end?) and Hustond : ) for your offers of assistance for Rob. I'm sure it'll be worth helping him out, his bike will come up a treat when it's done.

+1 on the buying from japan. Just check out yahoo auctions japan. and install a language pack. then you'll have to copy and paste into a translating program on the internet (yahoo has this as well).
