It's hard to show the clearances, but I've let it run up to fan on temps with the sides on and off a couple of times in my shed with no air movement, and all the critical areas seem okay. I think in relation to the front cowling openings, air flow riding should be adequete. fing02.gif And the horn air intake is routed up to the upper fairing area, away from any water/road spoog etc. Greg 491.gif
What was wrong with the way you had it mounted? LOL not as proud to show you have a very loud horn any more. I have my hidden under my side fairing and love being stealth till I'm ready to blast some one.
It's tough to find a good mounting location for a Stebel on a 6th Gen VFR with ABS. Mine has been lowered by rotating the triangle so the location above the front fender doesn't work, so I mounted mine where the EVAP canister is normally located. It took a while to come up with the right combination of angled brackets, but I've had it mounted there since Sep 06 and it still works just fine. Part of the horn is within 1/4" of the header, but it hasn't been damaged because the header pipes don't transfer that much heat.

Although it doesn't show it that well, that's where I bolted the steel bar to on mine fing02.gif It was you that inspired me to look at that spot I think! idea3.gif I don't remember pictures though...
In one pic, you'll see a bolt with a 'thick' washer/bushing which goes through the engine block casting that would normally hold the evap can, right? That flat stock lines right up to go down past the inside of the starter motor end and is long enough to locate the horn in just the right/best space. (extra holes drilled to fine tune the fit) Although there is a corresponding block hole on the other side of the engine, you' end up with the setup interfering with the oil filter, hence the choice of sides. The type of plastic has a fairly high heat tolerance, so unlike say rubber, it won't melt easily. As for the wiring, used a spare stainless waterline for a faucet(overkill dry.gif ) to jacket the wires and sealed all connections. for the horn air source, I used simple pullout faucet extension hose, gooped the joint/hose to the horn intake, and ran it up to the relay area to draw cool clean air.
Best part? Except for a few stainless nuts n' bolts and loctite, everything else was FREE! 491.gif
