I am looking for a tank bag to use as a bag for a dialy commute to work, I normally take my laptop home and would like a handle to carry the bag to a meeting and such but I do not necessarily need a backpack. Size is a huge consideration as a large bag would interfere with my ability to monitor my gages for travel in urban areas. I would like the abilty to use it as a day pack for short 200 mile stints with my woman, change of clothes. I need a map view on top of the bag and a rain shroud for the bag as I would need to protect my computer from the elements.
I don't think the magnetic ones would be compatable with a laptop but don't really know. I whould hat to have the straps in place if I did not want to bring the bag, I also do not want to be hampered by a long perperation time to travel, I want to hop on and go if possible, does anyone know of a bag that fits my needs?
On my daily commute into the office, I store my laptop in the office...... :P
On the rare occasion I take the laptop home on the bike, it is in my -expandable- magnetic tankbag.

My Ocelot/Tourmaster magnetic would easily hold an old Compaq Armada m700 with 15" screen. Never had a problem with the magnets hurting the PC, and I'd set the LT right on them in the bottom of the tankbag. (Old machine, didn't care if something went wrong.) Maybe if I did this on a daily basis I'd eventually find trouble?
OTOH I carry my wallet in the tankbag constantly; now my credit card fails to read about 50% of the time I swipe it.

I can't remember the name right now, and it may come back to me later, but there is a tankbag that allows you to put a ring around the gas tank fill port. Which bolt into with those hex bolts there. Then it is a quick release connection that connects to the specific tankbag. They are a little pricey, but would fill the needs of #1. no magnets and #2 easy on and off, #3 no straps if you don't take the bag.
I'll do some searching for the exact manufacturer. They are fairly large, and I can't remember if they were affiliated with givi or the booth was just next to the givi booth at the motorcycle show last year at the NYC motorcycle show.

Um magnets and harddrives dont mix.. You really dont want to store a computer on magnets of anykind. It can cause serious drive issues so i wouldnt recomend it at all. Magnets erase those things. So strap it.

Yeah, bad idea. The magnets will destroy it. I have a Givi E52 topcase that I use to carry my laptop. It's not magnetic, and it's 100% waterproof. It might be more expensive, but if you are commuting, it's nice to have the extra space that a topcase affords. My $0.02

The bag is from a german company named Held
http://www.held-bike...amp;PHPSESSID=9The pipe is the new shape Akrapovic; the s-pipe had to be cut and welded to the bottom half of the oem s-pipe so it would clamp onto the collector box
