So, in the next month or so I'm going to finally get around to tearing my VFR apart and replacing 2nd & 6th gear ( 6th is the intersecting gear that engages 2nd gear ). for about the past 6k miles I can't shift from 1st to 2nd while in Vtec without the bike dropping into neutral. Its my fault from missing gears and wearing the intersecting gears down, and possibly bent shift forks from missing gears, I won't know that until I get in there. Totally my doing though, my bikes had a ruff life for the past 30k miles :P
My question to anyone thats had the tranny out of the VFR. Can you flip the motor upside down and lift the lower case off the upper case, instead of taking the entire top end off? Looking over the schematic, it should work, there's no bolts going through from the top end thats holding the crankcases together, everythings externally bolted. I can't just lift the motor up and drop the bottom half off because of the way the crankshaft is setting. Disassembly should be easy enough that way, although getting the shift forks to hold position while reassembling might take an extra set of hands to half the tranny shafts in the bottom half while holding it upside down when placing the cases back together. Its seems like a really really simple crankcase setup, just curious if anyones attempted to take it apart from the bottom side. It should work. Others experience?
