About a year ago I was rear ended in my cage and have been disabled since due to various complications. Unfortunately my 2004 VFR has been sitting in my garage without even being fired up as I have been pretty much bedridden. My brother is offering to get the bike ready for sale as I've now lost my job and need the money for mortgage payments and dr/hospital bills. It may very well be another year before I'm strong enough hold up a bike anyway. Even if I can't sell it, the bike needs the attention.
Anyway, my question is what do I need to do to the bike that has been sitting for such an extended period.

As for the question/s, Got pics? I would start with the basics. Get the batt. charged, change the oil, (if not all the fluids), and burn that gas out. A bit of seafoam in the tank, wouldn't hurt.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have any current pics and am not sure where the existing pics are. That doesn't sound too bad, I'll have to check out the seafoam. I have been afraid of rust in the tank from sitting for an extended period of time. I've never let a motorcycle sit this long before.
One year? Dont worry about it. If the gas will burn she will run.
Charge the battery, fill up the tires and hit the starter button.
If you were going to ride it I would change the oil and all other fluids. Ck. the brakes and all fasteners. Drain gas and install fresh. Ck. air filter and just a good general ck. over.
Make sure the tires are not flat spotted or dry rotted.
One year for a honda in a garage is not a long time. It is in a gargae right.
I had a honda sit for 2 years. I charged the battery and she fired right up.

I've got a Honda Rebel that a friend gave me after it sat unstarted in his garage for 10 YEARS. Outside of cleaning the carb and putting in air and a new battery she fired right up. You'll be fine with whats been said, oil, air and possibly battery, you may even get away with only needing to charge it. Goodluck and don't sell it...........you'll be pissed off down the road.

Hooray fuel injection. If the bike had carbuerators they would most likely need to be removed and cleaned. I havent seen a problem with a fuel injected intake gumming up like a carb. would. Fuel doesnt really sit anywhere but inside the tank.
Hopefully the fuel will still be good enough to run. I would want to get the old fuel out and new fuel in. Hopefully it is low on fuel and you can just fill it up with some fresh fuel and maybe an additive.
You wont hurt anything by just charging the battery and see if it will run. I wouldnt worry a second about the inside of the tank being rusted.

It has 60k miles on it so I guess that could save me from having to sell due to the high mileage and the fact that I wouldn't get much from it. Otherwise, I have no choice as it will be taken from my anyway unless something dramatic happens.
