I bought a 03 vfr with 5k a few months ago. Over the past 1k, my bike has on occasion (4 times) stalled on decelaration. Everytime it's been at slightly different circumstances, but, the pattern seems to be occuring as I decelate to stop or near stop. As I stop or as I throttle back on, nothing. It restarts immediately no problem.
Before I purchased it, the bike apparently sat for long periods at a time so I put two tank fulls of cleaner but hasn't helped.

I've experienced that on occasion and all I did was tweak the idle setting up ever so slightly..... they seem to be fussy about that. It was usually well warmed up and mainly when coming off high rev deceleration and clutch in.

You're exactly right about coming off high rev decel and clutch in. I'll try the idle and let you know. Thanks for your help :-D
Mine does the same thing. I increased idle to 1400 and it fixed the problem. It may also be raleted to the harness recall? Not sure. Will tell after recall work is done.
Mine still does it after the recall. So, I am gonna try to raise the idle next. Idles at about 1200. So I will try pushing it up to 1400 like was mentioned.

I bought a 04 vfr800 brand new on 6-14-07...........leftover stock. Ever since, its stalled intermintantly. Most of the time it's when im coming to a stop, with the clutch pulled in. Before it dies, the rpm's will fall below 1k rpms (600-800rpms) then die. If I keep the engine reved up it will run, if I let off the throttle it dies. Recall didnt fix the problem (front wireing harness replaced only). New spark plugs, new fuel pump, new battery, Fuel cleaner. Turning up the idle helped for 562miles, then the dying started again. So if you do turn the idle up, give it some time before you get your hopes up. Ive had the bike to three different dealerships and no one seems to be able to recreate the problem. But then again no one will ride it long enough for the "intermintint" problem to arise. Ive been fighting with honda for 10 months now, with no help. So PLEASE, if you figure this problem out, email me. You need to cantact honda 1-866-784-1870, tell them you want Randy for your Case Manager. Also, contact the NHTSA. People are now buying these defective bikes, used, because the first owner didnt want to deal with this problem, and honda wouldnt help them. Also, you might ask a Honda dealership to look up your VIN number and see if your bike has been in a shop for the same problem. Ive spent countless hours looking for a fix to this problem, on VFRD, VFRworld, and other site with no luck.

Ive heard alot of people say that turning the idle up fixed this problem. Why would I have to turn the idle to 1400-1500rpm's for the bike not to die, while other people can set theres to manual spec of 1200 + or - 100 rpms, and their bikes run fine? If this did fix the problem, something still would be wrong I think.

I've got a 2003 with almost 40k miles...and mine did this for about the first 10k. There are several possible answers and I think a combination of all of them might be required.
1. The tach is NOT accurate, and reads a couple hundred RPM lower than actual. The manual wants 1200 RPM, so setting yours to 1400 is a good plan. The adjuster is just above the oil filler on the right side...find the black knurled knob and twist a little.
2. Take the free play out of the throttle cable. A little bit is a good thing, but just a little too much seems to make things worse. I found this will also make shifts a bit smoother.
3. Synching the starter valves might help as well, but I would do the first two initially.
4. 87 octane fuel with NO ethanol...better gas does NOT make the thing run better (IMHO). I think the chambers are small enough and the flame propogates fast enough that predetonation is a non-issue. I get better milage and smoother running on regular gas without any doubt.
I've read all over VFRD that "the tach indicates 200rpm high" but has anybody actually confirmed this with an external tachometer? FWIW, my '07 idles at 1500 (indicated) as delivered from the dealer.

IIRC, HS verified it with an external electronic unit while doing a write up for a starter valve sync or some such. Tach's in general aren't dead on. Ask any 16k rpm R6 owner (yuk, yuk, yuk)
+1 on raising it helped and it never occurred again

i used the pciii software and the tach was 150rpm higher than actual..

Make sure you keep us posted on the results after you raised the idle.
I had this same problem with the stalling since pretty much day one of getting my 2005 vfr. I got the factory recall done in feb or mar this year, since then it has only stalled on me once, and that was when i had crap fuel in my tank. I am still not sure it is fixed, and it always scares me that the bike will die on me in mid corner, as it has in the past. There is nothing more freaky than cornering in the mountains and your bike dies..... at least nothing i have experienced yet. Anyways, the bike always starts back up fine, but i'm not sure if it will all be fixed be the recall, but make sure you get it done anyways cuz it should be free. I have a feeling it could be a computer glitch or a different electrical problem.
Do any of you who get this hear a random clicking coming from the bike as well? Cuz i always get this weird clicking noise, and honda dealers say they don't hear it. My cousin has heard it when riding next to me and asked about it too. Maybe i am too sensitive to my bike, but i always wonder if this is related.
