Ugh.. Abs Light Is On Again

I'm venturing to guess the main ABS fuse (the one in the right fuse box) is blown again (I haven't verified this, but this is what happened 500 miles ago... after riding down a gravel road). It came on during my commute - I did brake semi-hard for someone that pulled out in front of me... I wouldn't think it would he hard enough for ABS to kick in but maybe it did.

I guess I'm going to have to replace the fuse and then go into an empty parking lot and stand on the rear brake... see if the fuse blows whenever ABS engages. If that's the case, any further troubleshooting ideas? Replace the ABS computer thing? I guess I could check the ABS computer to see if has any codes stored (last time once I replaced the main fuse, the ABS light went off... are there codes that would be stored but that would not trigger the light?)

First thing to do is read the stored code(s). If you do not have a service manual, you can get one from the downloads section of this site.

Last time when the main ABS fuse blew, there were no codes that could be read (since the ABS computer is essentially not powered at all)... the light just stayed on when I tried the code read procedure.

I'll replace the fuse and see if there are any codes stored when I get home next week.

Does your ABS cease function when the light comes on ?

I haven't tested it, but I assume so.... with the main ABS fuse blown, the ABS unit receives no power.

Ok, just got back into town. As suspected, the main ABS fuse in the right fuse box was blown (same as before). I replaced it then went through the ABS code reading procedure - no codes stored! ....so for some reason, the fuse is blowing without any codes being stored. Bummer.

Anyway, I watered down my driveway and (for the first time) tested the ABS at low speeds - it appears to work just fine and the fuse didn't blow...
I guess we'll just wait and see.
