Riding My Vfr In Phoenix At 102 Degrees!

Man, It's hot out here!

I picked up my new (to me) 2007 Honda VFR out in Mesa AZ today. It was "cooling off" as I rode back to Phoenix. The bank sign read 102 degrees!

Like riding in a blast furnace. But the bike is great and hopefully it will be much cooler when I return in October to tour the four corners......

Oh, I'm not complaining...................It's freak'n beautiful out here. I'm just real impressed with folks dealing with this heat. But I guess you simply get used to it.....................And as everyone keeps telling me, "It's a dry heat"...... :biggrin:


BTW, The bike hit 212 degrees on the temperature guage at a stop and it was hovering at 190-200 while on the highway. My 04 VFR back home (Boston area) is around 175 on the highway and 190 at stops. Is this higher temp normal out here?

normal to hit 225-230 during the heat. If you're stuck in stop and go it doesn't take long to hit 240-250. Thank goodness for lane splitting out here in Cali... What do you hit Greg/Todd up in VEGAS?

Usual is in the 220's in stop and go which is cool by my RC's or Todds standards. Yep the desert does strange things to all things motorized.

Actually Todd it's 185hp. My buddy Akozuiki over at Honda mentioned they might get better reception with stating 190hp, but in truth, it's only 185hp. I don't really like the seat, asked him to change it. Hopefully they get it done before public release...

What does KPH stand for? How about Keeping Pace with a Hayabusa?

220? why does mine hit 230 regularly? Just going on a quick 10 mile trip will get it to 225 easily... coolant level is fine... now you're freaking me out...

Death Valley is a go for me, when did you want to schedule? Not sure of the turn-out numbers, but I'll hang out with you and Todd any day...

Id rather be at 100 with low humidity than 90 degrees with high humidity, your bike temps seem normal

On the first annual NFR Hell Ride, it was 114 coming back into Tucson and my bike was around 245 in city traffic. Needless to say, I was scared. 220-230 is a pretty normal temp for city driving. You may get it below 200 on the freeway when it's 100+, but it will always be above 185.

Oh, and a mesh jacket is worthless in the high heat. A vented or perfed leather is better for blocking that blast furnace air and if you have a wet shirt on underneath, it's like AC!. The mesh is better when it's 70-90 out.

In late June it was really hot .....I was going to fast track thru the sand to Flagstaff but this was on the way. Just too hard to do this no matter what bike you are riding. This is one reason I have a trailer.

If I sat long enough it might get to the 230's but not so far. Wouldn't worry unless it stayed in the high 230's constantly.
I'm thinking like Todd, maybe late Oct or early Nov, keep it in the back of ya mind. I've got a few things happening in the next coupla months but will fit it in somewhere.

In DC we get high of 100, low of 87 and 90% humidity. (and perfectly still air) I saw that 2% humidity on yer local forcast and I almost keeled over.

Thats right 90% humidity.

I wonder if they did something different on the 08s. I've never seen my bike over 219 and I ride everyday in stop and go traffic. Believe me, Los Angeles has been hot these last few days. Near 100s. Is that normal as the bike age to reach higher temps? :unsure:

Are these temps 220-240 with stock T-stat and fans or with lower temp T-stat and fans switched on earlir than 220?

Just curious its melt metal hot and humid in MS.

I've now done 3 track weekends that were over 100 degrees, two at 103 and one at 105 and this is in the South where we have HUMIDITY! :blink:
Luckily the humidity was lower than normal at two of them, less than 60% when we normally see in the 80-90 % at these times of years.

I work nightshift and live in the East Valley, and have a 20 mile commute in. I see 106 degrees registered a lot going into work at 5 pm going down the freeway with airflow :dry: , though not lately, due to monsoon season here currently in Arizona. On the ride home at 6 am, it's usually been around 78 to 82 degrees and very humid.

Oddly enough, I don't mind the heat, and I ride to work in a full face, Joe Rocket Ballistic jacket, gloves, and jeans. I'm surprised of all the riders out there in shorts and no gear and helmet, though...

You and me both, man it heats up quick but the fan turns on at 225 and down the temp goes. See what happens when autumn gets here hopefully it will run cooler.

i live in south Texas and never seen more than 224 degrees , 45,000 mile

I know if I run 20w50 weights the average temp is higher
