Why Is It Stalling?

This has happened to me for the second time in 3 months. After riding at a steady pace for a while, I down shift several gears to first to come to a stop. I then realize the bike is not running after I come to a stop. I have to turn the bike off and then on before it will start. The first time I thought it was just a freaky thing and did not worry about it again. But now I am starting to get concerned after yesterday. Does anyone have any ideas what may be the cause of this? It's a 2002 with 27 Km. I had the wiring recall done in the spring.

what's your idle rev doing... put it up a little to approx. 1200 rpm's and see what happens....
And make sure to do a Starter Valve Synchronization.

Check your main 30 amp fuse to be sure it was replaced in the recall. I had this issue for a long time until I replaced my 30 amp fuse which was melted (before the recall was issued). Make sure your idle speed is above 1000rpms also.

The main fuse, check your battery, but first and foremost, bump up your idle.

defintely check your idle/idle screw. This happened to me with my old ZX-6. I kept stalling in NYC bumper to bumper traffic one day. Got to work & adjusted the screw & sure enough it solved the problem

If your idle is at 1200-1300rpm and it's still stalls I'm guessing it's a weakening battery, that's what it was on my 6th gen! :fing02:

my 02 has that same problem it has 32000ks on it,it happens more if the thottle was held steady speeds ,wiring recall was done ,no change, any idea"s!

You have to pull the clutch in before coming to a stop.

That's exactly how my 02 started.

Then, suddenly cut off while riding and back on within a second with a jerk. Then, did the blue wire fix and recall work. Happened again but no more slow speed stall. Didn't change the battery because din't want any guess work... including R/R, alternator, etc.

You can adjust idle and change battery if old to see whether it corrects your problem.

It could be low in fuel or fuel blockage within the breathing hose.

THANKS PAUL. i might try the battery replacment,its 4 years old. i talked too a honda tech guy he did mention something about the O2 sensors loading up at slower speeds,causing the same problems.it kinda made a little since! :fing02: :

I just came home from work. On the way home I ride a three lane hwy, I decide to get off a couple of exits early and have some fun on a twisty road. As I enter the ramp, I gear down a couple and come to a stop before turning. I go to take off and what do you know my bike has stalled. Started right up and away I went. The exact same thing that happened to you happened to me. It didnt do it again after that??? It is an 02. I don't know if the battery has been changed but I guess I will start there first. I hope thats all it is. By the way the wiring harness has been done. I really like this bike I hope I don't start having problems with it :(

Just get the battery tested, a weak cell on mine was causing the issue. This is what is was on my bike, others could have different issure. :unsure:
5 years later it stalls occasionally, but as long as it never strands me I could care less! :rolleyes:

Slow speed stall is acceptable after stop at the signal. It started that way. Then, engine cut-off at high speed +40mph. When you feel the jerk, it's really not funny specially when leaned. Never happend to me when leaned on the canyon road though.

One thing I noticed was the symptom changes over time. I didn't try to change the battery. So, like Baileyrock said, it could be aging battery related. Another thing is observe whether it happens at full tank or pretty low. Also, don't overfill the gas in order not to block the vent hose.

OK, I know that I have one of the old fashioned ones without the VTEC thingee, but this happens all the time when I am low on fuel (bar flashing). I've always attributed it to fuel slosh and don't worry about it. It may be worth correlating...
