I've talked myself into possibly buying a VFR (might consider trading my 06 TE 610) and I have a quick question. There are many good deals out there and I've found a nice red 2002/ABS that I like. I love the red.
Are there any major differences from 2002 to 2007. I know they changed the V-Tec a little.
Also the bike has very low miles. I mean very low. Should I be concerned that it hasn't been ridden much. The seller is saying that a dealer just went thought it.

2002 there was a stator and flywheel upgrade, 2002 to 2005 wireing harnness upgrade and some braking device issue somewhere in there, no recalls past that.
Might want to look into New tires (?? how old are they??) and clutch n brake fluid change..

I'll fill out my profile. I've owned a FZ1, GSX-R1000, FJR1300 and now a KTM 990. I am thinking a VFR would make a great sport-tourer for single rider. I'm used to power, but to be honest how often do we get to ride very fast anyway. :)
So the instrumentation/dash, etc is pretty much the same?
I recently bought an 04 ABS with less than 5k miles on it. It apparently either sat or was ridden very little for a couple of years. That explains the very low miles. I changed the oil and oil filter along with the air filter. The air filter box had a mouse nest in it. Something worth checking for. I am actually in Boise right now at the craft show downtown. Nice weather here!

Wow that's strange that you're in Boise. It's gorgeous here now. I have to move fast or I'll have to wait til spring. But then maybe I could get that gorgeous 08 gray.
One more thing. Does anyone have any nice pictures of the silver 05? That's the other candidate I am looking at. I googled but they aren't really that good.

One more question.
Originally I wanted ABS however I found a very nice red one without ABS. With the linked brakes on this bike, does ABS add that much more stopping ability? I heard the linked system is excellent.
The linked brakes are good but abs is a whole other thing. I love the abs. I see no downside to it and can see how it could seriously save my butt in certain situations. The abs on the vfr works awesome. It is smooth very fast stopping in wet and dry conditions. Now that I have it I do not think I would buy a bike without.
I've had both ABS and my current ride with them linked, personally I prefer the linked system as it has more bite but the ABS does have a more progressive feel and much safer for novices.
Both systems are very capable.

For a 2002 sitting around, does anyone think the fork oil would be a problem? Is it too old now?
The bike is an 02 and only has about 800 miles. The original oil is still in the engine! Yes it needs to be changed but could it sludge up after all this time?
