I got a Silver '08 and Im looking to upgrade the stock seat. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the Corbin back rest. It would be for my wife and maybe for my daughters. All the women folk are small and light if that matters. I mainly use it as a commuter bike. So the backrest would be for shorter joy rides and maybe takin the kids to school....
I searched and didnt see any mention of the back rest in the posts I found.
Anything in particular you are wanting to know?? Backrest selection is limited with these bikes. A couple people have made their own Corbin copy backrests. They work well and usually make the passenger feel more at ease riding on the back. I have one and use it for day trips. Longer trips the trunk is usually on and acts as the backrest. The Corbin backrests slide into a square tube securing with one bolt. Simple and fast design. Expensive just like the seat though.
I have the Corbin seat with the donut backrest. The only time I put it on is when my daughters or wife come along for a ride -- not that often, but when they do come along, they comment that the backrest makes them feel a little more comfortable. One of my daughters likes to ride without it -- she's the one who keeps saying, "Go faster, Dad!" When she's on the back, I don't even know she's there. She's a natural rider and leans perfectly. As for the backrest, I'm glad I've got mine for their sakes.
I bought a Corbin with the backrest from a member here for my wife/girls but they all said it (the Corbin) was too hard and the angle of the passenger section made them slide into my back forcing them to constantly have to push back on their footpegs. The backrest part was great but they hated the angle and lack of cush in the seat. I sold the seat to another member here that said he was aware of the density of the Corbin. I wound up buying a trunk which has the backrest incorporated into the design. It mounts/dismounts in less than 5 minutes and provides a bit of extra storage for whatever they buy on the ride. >>> and they WILL always buy something.
You got a sweet bike. After you get it set up the way you want, please post some pics. I got the same one and haven't done any mods except adding a power outlet for my GPS. I'm glad you didn't join the presidential club (07RWB). Silver is the best. :fing02:
I hadn't thought of using the trunk... I might need to look into that. Just need some thing to make my girls feel like they arnt going to fall off the back.
I will buy a new seat, just not sure what just yet. The stock one is getting ripples or rolls in the cover, you would think Honda would do better with the seat on their showboat bike...
Maybe I should get something with a little bling, can you gold plate leather?
