2 strange things happened today. I don't know if they are related, but here's whats up:
First, I was out riding with my wife today. We rode about 20 or so miles. On the way home, as I came to the turn off for my street, I pulled the clutch handle in and coasted from about 60 to about 15. I had already blipped the throttle and got the bike down in to 2nd to prepare for the left hand turn across 2 lanes of heavy traffic through the opening that was coming up. As I neared the turn and the end of my deceleration, the bike stalled. I quickly pressed the starter button and the bike started right back up. I didn't think much of it as I was braking moderately and was low on fuel.
Later this afternoon my brother called and said he had a flat and was just off the highway. I grabbed my plug kit and cordless compressor and headed off. As I left a stop sign, I acclerated through 1st gear and then I shifted firmly into 2nd gear. I used the clutch for this shift as I always do, and I'm 100% sure it was a clean shift. As I accelerated through 2nd the bike popped back into neutral and the bike revved up to about 7k. No biggie. Or so I thought. I then slowed a bit engaged the clutch, shifted back into 2nd gear and then proceeded along, shifting into 3rd gear. As I putted through 3rd I began to hear a clattering noise around 4-6k. I backed off a bit and the noise went away.
I am able to replicate the noise as many times as I want now :angry: If I accelerate briskly through the gears, I don't hear the noise. It seems only to occur if I am just cruising along and try to accelerate with out down shifting. Revving the bike in neutral does not produce any of this new clattering noise.
Any ideas?
I don't know whats up with it but I intend to call the dealer in the AM. I do have the extended warranty. The bike was purchased used but with the Certified Pre-Owned Honda program. This means that any recalls, bulletins, or services, up to that point had to be taken care of. The dealer is awesome and their service department is too.
