Well I bought my 02 Silver VFR 2 weeks ago, and I finally picked it up yesterday. It was in the shop waiting for the wiring harness recall to get done. Any way what a great motorcycle. Had my buddies over having beers after I came home and all of them agree.........It is a beauty!
I can't wait to go out and ride,but it is raining right now and I have brand new tires on it. (Bridgestone Battleax). Are they any good? I would post a pic but I have to figure out how to resize it. Any way I am one happy VFR owner! Oh ya I almost forgot I can't believe how comfortable the bike is. This is a great site! :biggrin:
Welcome again. It's good to hear they finally got your bike finished!
Which Battleax tires are they? I think there are several. There should be a number like BT020, BT021, and so on. The BT020 & BT021 are Bridgestone's sport touring models.
Honestly, any new tires will be good until you get used to the bike. I forgot if this is your first bike or not.
Personally, I think it took me 3 or more sets to get to know what I like and dislike about certain tires. This year, I "got real" with my performance requirements and bought sport touring tires. They are just fine for the real world and flat, straight roads I live near. They also work fine in the twisties when I go to them. Your result may vary, of course.
They are Bridgestone BT020. I just finished reading the different opinions on these tires. For now I think these tires will be fine for me as AI havent ridden for about 4 years and I won't be doing any knee dragging any time soon. The only thing that concerns me is according to the many posts about these tires is thay are not good in the wet. I get I will just have to be careful if I get caught in the rain.
As for riding I use to ride a 1991 Honda CBR 600F2. It was a fun bike. Sold it when my wife and I had kids. Now I am back riding and like I said in my earlier post the VFR is really a great bike. I am glad I bought one. I am at home on a day off waiting for the Sears repairman to show up and fix our leaking dishwasher. It is starting to clear up and I want to go for a ride. If I miss the repairman my wife will kill me. So here I sit.
Congrats on bringing you new baby home! :) I look at new bikes all the time but have yet to find one as perfect for me as my VFR. Comfortable, fast, sweet looks, versatile, decent fuel economy with regular unleaded, good mods available, cheap to insure...this bike has it all! :fing02:
Your new tires should be fine for getting to know your bike and sport-touring on your VFR. You'll probably want something stickier for sportriding, but since you're re-intro'ing yourself to riding I think the Bridgestones will be perfectly OK. One word of advice, however - watch out for cupping on the front tire. Check and maintain your tires' pressures often to help avoid them cupping more quickly.

Sears guy is gone, Apparently dishwasher is leaking because of hardwater. Need a new seal.......Worry about that later, Time to go out and ride and get to know my new bike. Thanks again guys for all of your info. Great site!

Great news...glad you have her home. What about a name for her? My 07 RWB was named Independence and my 03 Asphalt 919 is named Defiance. Make it yours and give it a name but for God's sake, don't pick Christine!!! Ha! Good luck, JD :blink:

Well I was out for a ride for most of the day up until I had to pick up the kids from school. All I can say is wow, I love this bike. It is super comfortable, the only thing is I have to build up my clutch hand I was in stop and go traffic throughout the city and I found my left hand was a little sore from using the clutch. I am also a snowmobiler and at the beginning of every season my thumb gets sore until I build up the muscle again. Any way guys I love my bike and I might go out for a night ride to try out the headlights.
Dam rain I was going to go after I closed up... :pissed:

Yep, 6th gen. headlights are terrific. Not sure about other gen. VFRs, but I think these are among the best in the business.

XLR8: I read your post about looking for one with ABS. I was in the same boat as you. I saw a few without,but I held out and found the colour I wanted with the ABS. After reading all the posts about how good the ABS is, I decided to find one with it. If you are patient you will find one. Good Luck!

Well just got back from a ride. The other thing I love about this bike is how good it is on fuel. The more I ride the better I like it. Stopped by a friends house today and he likes my bike so much that when he is ready he is going to buy one too. Yes, jstanwood, there are some nice areas to ride here as well. I also know that Michigan has some nice areas in the U.P. I have been snowmobiling up that way before and it also is very nice.
Congrats on the Silver VFR..........my 07 still has the 020 Battleasses on it. They will do fine. The front will most definetly cup at some point, but traction is fine for most riding. I generally replace the BAs with something from the Michelin Family..... :fing02:
