I am looking at a new 08 VFR to get back into the best bike I've ever owned. Had an 01, sold last year for a change (after 7 years), picked up a BMW R1200s. Like the S, it's a great bike; but there's something about a VFR - Vfour sound that hooks you. In scoping out the 08's, it appears now the RR's are on the headstock. Have they finally sorted some of the RR issues etc in this year of this gen? I'm also assuming that the other issues with wiring updates and warranty issues would be sorted on this year also. Any thoughts and kind advice welcome. I am REALLY looking forward to getting back on a VFR. These bikes just do everything well! (The silver for 08 is gorgeous!) Cheers. Dave. :fing02:

Youre not going to wait for the 09, gen 7?
Hell, it is a stunning V-5, no wait it is a V-4 sport bike, no it is a touring bike, wait, wait, no, no it is a 1200, ya, thats it
As to your question; no RR problems on the gen 6s. They had a ground wire harness issue that a recall fixed and the 08 has the upgraded harness.

Why not pick up a clean low mileage 5th gen. like the one you had ? I see them all the time with less than 25k miles for around $4500. That sure beats the out the door price of a new one.
I purchased my 08VFR about 3 months ago and have not regret the purchase at all. Its a fun bike with alot of power and comfort. Besides there are two ways of looking at purchasing the 08. Yeah you can wait for the 08 V5 or you moght be purchasing the last year of the V4 with V-Tec. :fing02: No regrets.
Unless I'm mistaken, the R/R has been mounted on the front part of the frame on all 6th gen. VFRs, not just the '08s. That's where it is on my '04 anyway.
Very few R/R issues on the 6th gens. But like rad said above, there was a wiring harness recall. That covered the '02-'05 models. I guess they figured it out before the '06s went to production. Since then, no recalls that I know of.
Let us know if & when you get another VFR - and of course you have to post a pic or two. I think it's a law or something... ;)

Thanks for all the thoughts! I loved the 5th gen: best bike I have ever owned, but some of the items on the 6th are very appealing to me. Factory luggage option. Passenger handrests that can stay on when the passenger cowl goes on :-)). All 08's have ABS, a key factor for me along with the remote preload adjuster for the rear end. (NO Laughing, it's a real pain without it when you want to do it quick) I have to also say that the electrics on the 6th gen, seem to be slightly more stable compared to my 5th. I LOVE the sound of the cam gears though. I will definitely miss that. The 09, if and when it comes, I am sure will be much more expensive than what I can negotiate an 08 model for. This is my mindset anyways. Thanks for all the input. Cheers!
