Hello. I'm Mike, live in Western Oregon, and am very interested in purchasing an 08' before we all have to potentially wait 3 years for the "new model" to have the teething issues worked out-you know the V-5, vfr 1000, etc. I am primarily going to use bike for 45 mile round trip commute, rain or shine. My question is this: Is there anyone living in Western Oregon that would be interested in letting me hop on their 6th gen. VFR for a little test ride? I have an 07' Speed Triple, and an 07' BMW f800s (most likely putting both up for sale) that I'd be happy to let you go for a ride, in exchange. I am 40 y/o, responsible rider (am I 40 ?--Damn!) and would treat your bike with respect, of course. I just would like to see how I get along with one of these beasts before I lay down my hard earned cash. I would be happy to ride over to a mutually agreed upon location and swap bikes for a 1/2hr or so, on one of the dry fall days.
Please let me know if anyone is interested in doing this and thanks in advance! Can't wait to get one with some pipes and hear the V4 growl. :wheel:
First and foremost Welcome! I can't help since I don't live on the West Coast but thought I might give you some input on your potential purchase. I would recommend looking around to see if you can find a leftover 07 model. Quite a few people have posted in the last few months about Anniversary editions still sitting on the floor of dealerships collecting dust. As far as the color of the bike you either love the anniversary paint or you hate it. If you are ok with the paint I think you should consider it and see if you can get a good deal! Either way, it's smart to test ride the bike because the VTEC debate is a whole other can of worms although I must admit that it is a little annoying at times.
06, 07 & 08's are all the same so that give you a wider choice/chance of catching a ride.
I would think someone would take you up on it especially when the can ride with you on one of your bikes! :fing02:

I'm sure you will find everything you need to know right here. - - - I'm headed out on Friday in you direction, sort of, Denver area to Glacier National Park Montana, Seattle, Astoria, Tillamook, and back to Colorado. AAA trip planner says 3300 miles of riding. Can't wait! Good luck with the search.
Thank you for the warm welcome! Good to know that 06' through 08' are same. I like the rwb 07' anniversary (like the 08' grey too), so I'll keep an eye out for those. I am looking for abs version for my rain commutes. I have never had the opportunity to sit on a VFR, so I really need to get to a local dealer to have a seat. I like what I've read about the bikes. I think it'll be a great choice for me because: Drinks regular unlead., stellar reliability, abs offered (can o' worms I know), and V-4 sound/character. I've had v-twins in the past, (sv650, KTM, etc), so I love that v-twin sound. I think I've heard every sound file on youtube for the vfr, and I love it! You're smart to at least consider going with a leftover, regardless of color. If color isn't the deciding factor you'll probably get a better deal. Might be tougher to find a leftover w/ABS though. If you were to consider a low miles used bike you'd probably broaden the pool of available bikes.
If I lived in OR I'd gladly trade bikes with you for an hour or so - would love to get a test ride on a Speed Triple!

I bought one without EVER ridding a Moto... Based on the fact it has always been a class leading bike, and all around best bike for years! And I have wanted a VFR of some type for years...
Once you hear one with pipes you won't want anything else :fing02: :fing02: :fing02: :fing02:
My Staintunes are freaking awsome!! I LOVE the way my VFR sounds. Best sounding moto I have ever heard!
One thing you will notice imidiatly on a VFR is the lack of vibration... I have sat on a few bikes and felt the vibatronic bars.
My long time buddy who picked my bike up and rode it back, 2,000 miles, could not believe how smooth it is... He sold his CBR 1000 RR and is now looking for a VFR... He liked it that much.
And the VFRD group only adds to having a VFR :wheel:
Welcome aboard, Mike. I just thought up a great plan. You get to see the USA, and ride a bunch of VFRs too.
Here's what you can do. Drive that Speed Triple down here to Arizona. We'll have 2-3 VFRs at each end of Arivaca road. You swap bikes with a VFR and drive the 25 miles of twisties to the other end where you swap off to another VFR and ride back and change to another VFR again. The VFR owners will take turns driving the Limey bike doing the same thing.
Oh, I almost forgot. Every fall day is a dry day here. Temps will be in the 80's. Don't forget your mohawk. ;)
Welcome...When I came upon this site, I was in a similiar situation. I was debating a new Triumph ST vs. a new 2007 VFR. Thinking I would get all PRO-VFR responses, I waited only to find most responses were fair. I bought a RWB '07 and love it. It is not a speed demon but it is dependable, it rides well and there is a great site like this that we get to joke around on, get serious and/or offer help with nearly any topic. I hope you go VFR and if you buy it and ride it, you will enjoy it. I have a 919 that I rode every day and it is a awesome bike but since I bought the VFR, I have to force myself to ride it. RRW, if I had the time I'd be all over an Arizona trip and you guys could blast around on the Speed Triple while I'm checking out the VFRs! And Curse you for having great riding weather in the Winter.
GGray, I'll look into the Staintunes if I get one. I had a Staintune pipe on an old bmw f650-sounded great.

TimC, yes, I've been checking out Cycletrader.com for a local one with abs. We'll see. I used to say I couldn't afford to buy used!-always financed. I am they guy everyone gets good deals on used bikes from. Maybe I can break that (not fiscally smart) trend with a clean used one.
