For those of you that have the 6th gen 'Tunes, do they include a heat shield for the down pipe that's near the pillion's right leg? The stock exhaust has one here, but I've never seen a pic of that part of the Staintunes. If anyone has such a pic, I'd appreciate a posting.

No heat shield with the 6th gen Tunes. I just sold my set - or I'd get you a pic. Was never a problem for me - except when the rear shock gave out - the up pipe melted a bit of the Powerbronze P.O.S. hugger......
No they don't. I melted my boot's heel cup to them every time I rode. Eventually, I purchase an aftermarket, universal heatshield from Wheeler's. It is a semi circular piece of aluminum with holes in it that attaches with hose clamps.

I've melted my boot to mine, too. Took a long time cleaning it off that stainless pipe but finally got it off. I'm just careful about my foot position when I ride now. I never put a heat shield on.

I've got size 14's (save the jokes, it's more common then you think!) and just mounted my tunes a couple of weeks ago. I did notice my heel hits the pipe and do notice it's hot however, I don't think it'll melt my boot. I've really noticed it in the cold (if 45 is cold) and I can put my leg and use it as a heater!! Really need to get some heated grips and vest before the winter gets here...

Never had a problem with mine not having a heat shield. I like the look of the pipe by itself. Never melted a shoe but I did melt a shoestring that came untied from a tennis shoe I was wearing.......always wear boots now...that melted nylon took forever to clean off. :rolleyes:

The heel melts on the pipe and the toes are dragging the ground...all at the same time. Do you have footpeg extensions? HA!!! Sorry dude, I could not resist. I tried but damn, the image in my mind would not allow it. :biggrin:
Thanks for all the responses. I'm gonna pull the trigger on a set on Monday, but I will miss the look of the stock brushed aluminum on the pearl white bike. I think it's just a beautiful combination but, having had Staintunes on my '00 VFR and '02 Blackbird, I can't resist the forthcoming growl :biggrin:
I'm seriously thinking about fabricating a "u" shaped bracket like the one on the stock mid pipe to weld onto the Staintune pipe. Then I can mount the stock heat shield. I'll have to see if boot clearance will be a problem...I sport size 13's, so we'll see :unsure:
