Tire Wear - Bt21

Anyone here running BT21 tires? I had the front changed about 8K miles ago last season, while washing the bike recently I inspected the tire and wear was exactly the opposite of what I was expecting: the middle section is protruding while the sides are clearly worn. Now, I know that these dual compound tires are designed to be softer on the sides and harder in the center, but knowing that I'm not an aggressive rider in the curves, the difference in wear seems inconsistent with the design characteristics of the tire. Anyone has a similar experience?

Yeah the sides wear faster, compound is part of the reason but take a look at a brand new one, not as much tread on the sides as center. 8k is alot to get out of an 021, Wheatie took his of at 2,300,,,,, a bit aggresive rider, but also was running 32 psi,,, BT's seem to like air pressure.

I'm running 40 r (021) 38 f (PP) now ! !
I'm not convinced the 021 front would have done much better with higher pressure. Like to hear some wear stats from anybody running 38-40 front. Just for drill, ya know !

Hmm, could be less than 8K miles, this was a guesstimate, but like I said I'm not an aggressive rider. I was expecting wear to be more even, what's the point of having dual compound with a solid center when you need to change the tire when the sides wear much faster? The challenge of these new technology tires is to balance the hardness of the different compounds so that wear is somewhat even for average riders, I may not represent the average sport touring rider but the difference in wear is IMO way beyond what it should be. Looks like I'll try a different tire brand, for kicks.

The point of dual compound is not to even out the wear as much as to put the sticky compound where it is needed most. On the sides of the tire that are needed in cornering. It is much more benificial on the rear tire that usually wears out in the center than the front that wears more on the sides.

Ive had good wear on my bike with the 021's.The front and rears are wearing out at the same time and I am getting about 8000 miles outa both, with stock recommended pressure,90% mountain riding, which does help even things out from center to the edges compared to my prairie days....I dont have the middle wearing any diff than the edges, maybe that why?
