Went to schedule electrical recall work at Sloan's Cycle center (Honda) in Murfreesboro today and upon scheduling was asking him if my relay/fuse block behind the battery is covered -- it is getting pretty brown from overload. He said he is not sure and does not think Honda will cover it but asks me why I did not get it done sooner since I "actually had Honda Extended Warranty thru June 2008." Now I bought my bike as a bank repo in March of 2007 so had no contact w/owner and no way of knowing, however, I was in Honda in Knoxville 2 or 3 different times last year asking about this burnt relay and how much it would take to fix if it was not covered under recall. Naturally I am not a happy camper that they did not inform my of this tidbit of useful info.
Since they had to punch in my VIN to look up recall should they have not seen that and mentioned it would be covered under Extended Warranty as Murfreesboro Dealer did today?
Reason I'm not happy is I have been putting off that fuse/relay behind battery AND a T-Stat that I noticed last Winter occasionally sticks open in cold weather causing bike to not heat up and I imagine it will get worse this winter.... That would have sure saved me a Pretty Penny. :pissed:
Had to vent a bit, but on the bright side Honda in Knoxville said I would have to leave the VFR there for "about 2 or 3 weeks" while they had part on order and til it got in and bike could be repaired. Sloan's people were very helpful and said part will be in end of week or beginning of next and that I do not have to bring bike in until part is here and that they will call me to setup when to bring it in. That is a HUGE help that I only have to be w/o bike 1 day instead of 2 or 3 weeks.
Update: Took the bike down to Sloan's this morning when they opened to drop off and have the recall performed. I again expressed my concern over the toasty looking 30 Amp fuse holder/wire behind the battery and they said they would check it out. Upon picking up the bike asked the Service Mgr. again if theres anyway we could contact Honda to see if they would do it under good will and he said to send him an email about it and he would forward it to see. I walked out to my bike and found a inner cowl pin missing and the Tech that performed the work came out to put it back in and told me what all he replaced. He said he replaced "all of my main wiring harnesses" -- the ones that go up left side, around headlights, and back down right side and also that he put new wires to the battery. I looked under the seat and sure enough there she was... All the battery wiring was bright, shiny and brand new!! Come to find out the Service Mgr. simply either didnt know what I was referring too or didn't actually know what all harnesses the Tech was replacing. I now have a GREAT PEACE AT MIND knowing I don't have to worry about this wire/fuse burning out and leaving me stranded on the side of the road!!
