This morning I noticed that my '02 VFR was leaning much more to the left than usual, although there were no Obama stickers to be seen. Further inspection showed that the forward one of the two bolts holding the kickstand in place is missing. The kickstand base had rotated a bit on the remaining bolt giving the bike a steeper lean angle. I am all in favor of a little more lean angle when the bike is moving, but not so much when it is parked.
Can any one tell me the dimensions of that bolt? It would be nice if I could just pick a replacement up at the hardware store on the way home rather having to take the remaining bolt off first.
It is 1.25 pitch. Most 10 mm bolts are 1.5mm pitch, but on occasion, you will find a 10 mm x 1.25 bolt used - most notably on the brake calipers and the side stand bolt.
I hate to break the news to you that you wasted about $5 with Ron Ayers, but you can go into any Ace Hardware and get one. They will usually refer to them as a "fine thread" metric bolt. Might cost you 50�.
This is not all that uncommon a problem on 6th Gens. It was the very first thing I did to mine I had heard so many horror stories about the bolts coming out. Go to Ace is the Place, get you a "fine thread" 10 x 25 bolt, DRILL IT FOR SAFETY WIRING, install it, safety wire it, and you'll never have to worry about it again.
Don't do the red loctite (sorry guys). You're screwing the bolt into aluminum and there may be a day when you need to remove it for whatever reason. Screw up the threads in the frame and you really do have a problem then.

It took me a sec to figure out what you meant by safety wire. I used to be a knuckle dragger in the navy and we called it lockwire. Everything was lockwired. The only reason I can figure on why the rest of the world isn't lockwired is because it takes a bit of skill to do it right.
It worries me that this happened though, and I never heard of this issue before. Now I am going to be worried for a while about what else can be loose. Not every bolt can be easily checked.

It took a long time for your bolt to fall out.
This issue has been mentioned numerous times on the site. In a previous posting about this... it was speculated that there was an incorrectly set pneumatic wrench on the assembly line.
I re-touqued my bolt after one of those postings and never lost my bolt.

Sorry to express my ignorance on this topic - you drill a hole in the bolt head, and then do you wire it to something else so it can't come loose?
