What's With This Funky Left Brake Caliper?

I did do a search but didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I think I get how this left caliper works. I have ABS. Do all the VFRs have strange left calipers? Wasn't this called the TRAC system or something like that?

Anyway, my real questions is, is it normal for this left hand caliper to "click" every once in a while? It kind of sounds like a pebble coming out of the fender but it does it every morning when I initially roll down the drive way. I gave everything the post sale inspection but wondering if I should look a little more if this sound isn't normal. I'm mostly sure it's the caliper.

You must be looking at the master cylinder that actuates the rear brake caliper if you use the front ones. The torque applied by the wheel on that master cylinder mechanism automatically applies an amount of braking to the rear. Simple, but I guess it works. That's Honda's LBS system for the VFR.

Torque Reaction anti Dive Control

Used on Mid-80's Hondas to control fork dive under braking. Your bike does not have TRAC.



What you have is LBS/ABS.


The LH caliper, upon gripping the rotor, moves forward on it's pivoting caliper bracket, thereby actuating the secondary master cylinder at the top of said bracket, which, in turn, activates a portion of the rear brake caliper, IIRC, it's the center piston out back.


A small amount of noise may be normal to your bike, but I'd remove the pivoting bracket, check the mounting bolts, and grease the lower pivot at a minimum.

Torque all bolts to spec.
