Widest Tire For The 6th Gen Vfr

What's the widest tire I can fit on a 6th Gen, both with and without modification? My Bridgestone Battleax is a 180. I think a wider tire can be mounted w/o mods...

Maybe without changing out the wheel mods, but your tire profile will be affected adversely if you fit too wide a tire to the wheel. Stick with the 180 is the best bet. :cool:

I'm sure you could fit at least a +1 oversize (190/55 ZR 17), and, yes, a fatter rear may look cooler up to a point. However, the problem is the bike was designed to achieve maximum handling characteristics with the stock 180/55 ZR 17 tire size. You throw all sorts of wild cards into the handling mix once you start tinkering with non OEM widths and aspect ratios. Then again, some folks think this is fun to play around with. Usually, the bike's handling will suffer. I prefer to stick with the stock size and play around with different brands and compounds.

I think a 190 will rub.

Question is, why would you want a tire larger than a 180? Not like the VFR's torque and horsepower are overwhelming the 180 width tires.

My friend asked me years ago, when I was dreaming about squeezing a 170 section tire on to my Hawk's rear wheel which had a 150 as standard, "Do you think you'll have bigger balls if you buy bigger pants?!!" Always remember that day everytime this question is asked here.

I think you can just barely squeeze a 190 on. I don't think you'd be able to ride very far when the tire experiences growth as it heats up under load.

190 55 fits just fine.
DONT do a 190 50, the profile is to far off
190 55 has a pretty good price premium over a 180 55.

some will say turn in is slowed down, but your not gonna notice it.

Stick with the 180. A 190 will definitely affect the bike's handling but not in the way you want it to.

The good thing about 180's is since that's what super sports use, they're easy to find in every compound imaginable.

Thanks for the input. I'm looking at making several mods to the VFR next year:
Ditching the rear plastic entirely, replacing the factory rear light set, fabricating a lower & smaller seat for a single rider. Anyone who has removed the rear fender and plastic can see how that rear section really stands out w/the single swing arm and large, uniquely shaped exhaust. I'm hoping to modify my stock VFR to accentuate these unique features.
