I just put my rear hub together (5th gen). The rubber dampers were completely trashed, so I replaced them along with the other parts. Everything is brand spankin' new.
I can't get the hub to mate up to the flange, not all the way. The rubber thingies prevent it. I used the vise on my woodworking workbench (don't ask) to get it most of the way there, but there's still a gap. (I could crank harder, but I wanted to ask first!) Is this normal? Will it go fully together when I tighten the stake nut (at it's very high torque setting)? Or do you think I have a problem?
Thanks again,
Aram
Take it to your Honda dealer and get them to tell you what you have screwed up if they will.
Disassemble it all and try again.
It was a while ago, but I am pretty sure I just set the dampers into the cover, placed it on the axle, and hand tightened the nut most of the way. I don't remember any extreme measures in the process.
Check the dampners they may be madfe to only go in one way easily like a tapered side
Well, I checked in with my mechanic (Rob at Evolution Suspension in San Jose). He looked it over, and concluded, basically, that life is like that sometimes. Just need to torque everything nice and tight, and all will be well.
So it goes.

Did you notice if Rob's toolbox has an unusual number of big C clamps, bottle jacks, hammers and mallets in it?
Great you found the solution to your cush drive problems!

Funny you should ask.... I was reluctant to do anything as amateurish as bang on it. I figured I'd go to the pro with the real tools. You probably know where this is going: he sprays some WD 40, bangs on it with a mallet, and then says, ahhh, just torque down on the nut; it'll come together. Gotta love the pros! (Rob runs a great shop and is extremely conscientious.)
