Dead...battery?

Well, today is the first day it seems it's been above single digit temps around here, so I decided to fire the bike up and maybe take a spin around the neighborhood. Still a lot of sand, etc, so it was going to be pretty slow and short, followed by a nice bath and back in the garage. Kinda anxious to get it out as you can tell :biggrin: . Didn't exactly get that far.

I went to fire it up, key on, no buzz like normal for the fuel pump. Hit the starter - nothing at all. I get headlights, horn, and the oil pressure and neutral light, and all the stuff on the dash. No FI light.

I have had the battery on a trickle charge but have also toasted batteries in the past like that too. I checked the main fuse and it's fine. Manual shows Main A and B - I can't locate 2, just one. And the spare. I don't have ABS, maybe the other main is for ABS only?

Any ideas guys? Guess 3 hours before the Superbowl may not be the best time to expect many responses lol...

Ok, not trying to be a jerk, but did you check the kill switch on the right handle bar?
Personally I'm not in the habit of using mine (seem to recall reading on here somewhere people had problems crop up from using the switch too much, but anyways). Went to get my bike when it was sitting in my buddy's garage for a week, tried to start it, no dice. Just like you...no pump whine or anything. Start freaking out. Then I remember he has a young son that tends to play around with stuff. Sure enough...the kill switch was in the off position. Turn it on, good to go.

Question is, does your charger switch over to a "float" charging mode where it will maintain your battery with charging input only if the voltage starts dropping at a set threshold level, like Deltran's "Battery Tender" does??
If you have just a straight charger without this feature, you will toast your batteries from overcharging. Get a "Tender" type of charger so you don't end up wasting batteries doing this. I've had my MC batteries continuously connected to a Battery Tender for many years without any problems.
Hope it's just another bad battery.

Believe me, all opinions welcome and you're not coming off like a jerk - I though of the switch, but I totally agree to check the stupid stuff first. Kickstand, neutral, etc.

I have a battery tender, that's what I'm using. My first one crapped out and was overcharging so I chucked it and bought another one. Been fine since, but I'm always suspect of them now. Maybe I should take the battery and have it tested to see if it's shot. There isn't a fuse just for the FI circuit is there?

If you only found 1 main fuse and you mentioned a spare it's probably the one covered by the rubber cap, you missed the 30amp single fuse that has been the cause for a lot of frustration for folks. Look up 'vfrness' and the main thread will have pix of the 2nd 30amp fuse holder. I think there are pix of that fuse holder on the 'beef up dem' wires' thread too. I hope the pix help you find the 2nd fuse holder. Hopefully the 30amp fuse is your problem and hopefully it's not burnt up. Good Luck.

Thanks much, I'll do that and see how it goes. Also, one more thing - are the lights on the PCIII supposed to be on? I never noticed, but there are no lights on it now.
