Givi's Touring Windscreen

Has anyone used the givi touring windscreen. Does it help that much with the wind. Also , if there is anything out there that would work better for wind protection and still looks sporty, can you point me to it. Im 6'1 175lbs, on a VFR800

I have one on an '04 and think it works well. I'm 5'9 and it seems to take the wind off my shoulders. However, I'm not sure if I get more turbulence around my faceshield. Overall, I like it better than stock, especially since I added Heli-bars. If you find someone close to you who will let you try before you buy, that's the best option.

So what is your opinion on the Heli Bars? Is it enough of a change in position to warrant the price and do you think that you should run the larger windscreen if you have Heli's?

I've got a 2003 with GenMar risers and the GIvi screen being discussed. This is just my opinion....

1. I'm 6'2", around 200#...my wife is 5'5""
2. She hates it. The buffetting is pretty bad...I can feel her head moving behind me sometimes, esp. when behind another vehicle at interstate speeds. SHe gets motion sick from the bobbling.
3. It is warmer for the rider in the winter...and MUCH warmer in the summer. Don't give up the stock screen.
4. MIne is the smoke version, and I think the color looks better than the stock unit.
5. The risers look really silly when you open the package, but just that small rise makes a HUGE difference. I often put in 750 to 800 mile days back to back and there is a definite difference with the risers.
6. I live about 40 miles from the Dragon, and really see no adverse handling with the risers.

As the rider, the screen is pretty good for ME. I don't notice any increased buffet...just less wind/more heat in the summer. The plastic is VERY heavy duty compared to others I looked at and after several years there are no cracks or scratches with no special care taken. Optically it is pretty good unless you are peering through the "flip" at the edge.

I have noticed that over say....oh maybe 115 mph....there is a buffet induced in the cowl from the screen that I did not notice at all with the stocker. No huge affect on handling, just moves around a bit.

Anyway, my two cents are in. Hope this helps some.

I've had Heli-bars on for about 40K now, and really enjoy the more upright position they place me in. I'm not bolt upright, but comfortably canted forward so that the wind at 65-75 mph balances me nicely, enabling me to be very relaxed. We tour a lot, and together with a custom seat, 500+ mile days are very do-able, though 350 to 400 is a day-after-day distance.

I run a stock screen, and the turbulence seems to hit me at about throat level (I'm 5' 9"), and I'm on a 5th gen.

Also, I have my fork tube tops set at 44mm above the triple clamp surface, which with the Heli-bars clamped even with the tops of the tubes results in a further 8mm of elevation of the bars. Even these small differences can produce a noticeable result.

IMHO, the Heli-bars are very much worth it, but be sure to check out the Spiegler or Magura systems and other setups.

Hello, I have the Givi Touring screen. I'm 5'9", 200 lbs. and have Heli-bars. I like the Givi over the stock because I use my bike primarily for commuting. My daily trip is around 50 miles roundtrip on the interstate. I still have some buffeting, but it starts at the bottom of my helmet as opposed to the middle of my chest. I wear earplugs so the wind noise isn't that bad for me.

The Givi screen is 18" from bottom to top. I always see a screen on Ebay from some Superstore that has the Flip Touring screen from Powerbronze. This screen measures 21" (that's what they say). The extra 3" might be pretty nice if it takes the buffeting out of the equation. Does anyone have or tried this screen?

I like my Givi.

Had a Givi screen, it did a good job of deflecting the air up, but i got a good bit of buffeting right under my helmet (i am about 6'1"). I ended up buying a Windjammer II, which quieted the ride down a lot. Then i swapped to the stock screen and was amazed at how quiet the ride was, the airflow is so much better. The Givi is good at keeping the rain and cold air off you, but other than that i'd go with the stock.

Adam79,

I have a Givi screen on my 2004 VFR. IMO it does make a definite diffrence in wind re-direction. If you have seen one, it has a distinct lip on the upper edge that seems to direct wind above my shoulders and reduces buffeting versus stock shield. I have also tried the "sexier" Double Bubble, which did look great, but did nothing for the wind. For my money, the Givi looks fine (I have the smoked, which is lighter than some other shields), flows with the bike and does a good job with the wind while still giving you a blast of air that is pleasant. I am 6' and 180, so similar to you. Hope this helps
