Frame Sliders Anyone?

I just got a 2005 VFR and am looking to start mod'ing it, but figure I mine as well start with a set of frame sliders. Can anyone recommen a set and where to get them? How hard are they to install?

I got mine from Radar on this very forum. I love everything about them.

I'm not sure if they've ever been crash tested on anyone's actual bike. Hope not! Does anyone know about that?

Anyway, great looking product. Easy to install. Easy to deal with in ordering and getting them to my home with the proper hardware.

Look him up. I think they were well worth it.

i crash tested radars. they survived a very hard impact, then were finished off by another impact
Basically survived the bike getting thrown down after hitting a car, then broke after another car hit my bike. I'd by them again though if that is what you really want to know...i just need the money for them. They were easy to install. I mean you can't screw it up!

I have the R&G Sliders and couldn't be more pleased. I haven't used "Radar's," but I hear lots of good things.

They were easy to install and takes a little while to do so. I would plan on atleast 3-4 if you are picky about the finish product.

I can't speak for any other brand than Motovation. It's what I have on my VFR. I haven't wrecked it yet (knock on wood), but I have seen a few post race track crash results on other bikes that looked good. I also talked with their people before purchase and I liked their customer service. I'd go with the Motovation sliders again, as long as Vortex doesn't start making sliders for the VFR. Did the install myself too. Not as hard as I thought it was going to be.

I went the R & G route, at the time Radar wasnt making them. As far as dificulty, take your time, check, re-check before you commit and use the search button for this foum there are a lot of threads about it.

Some companies want their damaged products back for R/D purposes. Mybe you can ask him to sell you a new set at a cheaper price in exchange for the crash tested set that you have. Whats the worst thing that can happen? He can say no. Good luck.

I have Radar's and like them very much. They are easy to install, including drilling the plastics and reshaping the bottle. It was a pleasant installatiion with absolutely no glitches. I would buy them again in a heartbeat.

Always, i would have loved to get them off the bike. But the insurance drug their feet in giving me a settlement, and in the while sent my bike off to auction. Before i had the chance to get anything off of it. Oh well, they paid me quite well...

I installed a set of these this past wkend. Not bad if you're handy with a marker & drill. A good 2" flare at the ends. 3-4 hrs first time sounds about right

So I take it there are no frame sliders that can installed without drilling the fairing (ugh). Where can you purchase Radar's and motovations?

There are some that use a bracket over the radiators. Definitely form over function as the metal will just collapse and crush your radiator. All the good products mount to an engine mounting bolt and thus go through the pastic.

I took a crash lately and after restoring the bike, I figure it'd be a good idea to invest in some sliders.

I don't know if I'd go with the above(at least for me), as it doesn't seem that they come all that far out from the actual fairing.

Then really, it's just an issue of just how much these things will actually protect the fairing. Obviously it all depends on how the bike dumps, so of course there is no 100% guarentee.

Though, I wonder if it's all worth the money, the drilling into new fairings, the mod on the water bottle, et cetera just to have a situation that will likely damage (in some way) the fairings you're trying to protect anyways.
Cause, if you want your bike to look good after a fall(even with these sliders), you're most likely gonna have to shell out the dough for the new parts anyways.

I know, I come of pessamistic here, but from all the pictures I've seen so far(with some sort of sliders), all the fairings were scratched up and damaged anyhow. So I think I'm kinda being a bit more realistic.

Though, would appreciate people's other viewpoints on the matter and suggestions of the best type of Sliders that will likely reduce most of any damage that can happen. (wishful thinking hehehe)

They aren't fairing sliders, they are frame sliders. They MAY protect a fairing in a 0 mph tipover, but they are designed to reduce damage to much more expensive parts in an actual crash.

In a typical 30mph crash, you are probably going to damage your side mounted radiator, the fairing will push into the gas tank, and the fairing will also scratch the frame, effectively totaling your bike. With frame sliders, in the same crash, you will probably only have to worry about a side and front fairing.

I have the R&G sliders and it was worth it. I used to live in a house with a steeply slanted drive way and the only part of the side fairings that took abuse was the small "bubble" on the right side. I won't mention on how many drops though. :dry:

Get them. They are worth every penny and will save you from yourself in "most" drops. And the coolant bottle kit makes installing them that much easier (as well as leaving you a back up bottle if you need it). Even a low speed slide will be much more expensive than the cost of frame sliders + new fairings (or new paint). I learned that one the hard way as well (on a previous bike).

+1 on the last 2 posts. If you crash at speed you may still have a rashed fairing, but your frame and radiator could be spared major damage.

My R&G set saved me some scratches and a bent front brake lever during my last tipover - and made the bike much easier to pick up since it was sitting at an angle instead of flat on its side.

Ok, well if it's to protect other areas of the bike, I can understand that (Can I have a +2 now please? :cool: ).

So anyways, which frame sliders extend the farthest from the actual fairing surface?

Thanks. Though, the mounting hole position on those look different from what I thought were R&G.
I thought the R&G used the frame bolt that was furthes from the radiator(requiring a rather big hold to drill) and
had to have a replacement water bottle(provided?)?

Or are these a different version?

So, where did you all get the R&G sliders?

Did you buy buy the R&G sliders direct from R&G? If not then where?
