Gonna do a track day on the vfr but want to disconnect the speedo so as I dont keep looking at it dont just want to cover it up is there any way to easilly disconnect the speedo but leave the rest of the clocks and guages working

Unplug or remove the speed sensor located on the front sprocket.
A pair of wire cutters would work too. ;p
Why don't you want to cover it up? You can just put masking tape over that section of the gauges.

I think I know why you don't want to cover it. You would be peeling tape off to see it. :laugh: You may have other reasons, but the curiosity is getting at me, so I have to make up a reason to appease my mind.
If you totally want it disconnected, you can pull off the countersprocket cover and remove the speedo drive nut. That would do it! It would also keep miles off the bike.
There may be a connector, but unless it's ONLY for the speedometer, it may cause unwanted side effects. You should be able to trace the wire back pretty easily. The sensor is right on the countersprocket cover. Mine says TDK. Who knew they made more than VHS tapes?
EDIT:
I looked in the service manual I found HERE, and on pages 20-12 through 20-14 (605 through 607), it shows the speedometer sensor and connector. You can try unplugging it and seeing what happens.

I use both the tach & speedo at track days as tools to help me learn if I'm doing something better, actually I mostly just glance at it at certain consistent spots around the track to see if i'm carrying more speed or RPM.
After the track weekend I watch the rpm & speed everywhere on my video of each session, I learn alot that way. :cool:
Don't disconnect, just pull the fuse. You should pull the fuses for the lights to help the tape from not sticking to the lights. I believe one of the fuses for the lights also does the speedo.
I'm with Bailey on this one, I run on the track with the speedo. it can be helpful.
