Stomp Grip!

Stomp Grip has now released a 6th Gen VFR specific kit. I ordered mine yesterday in black, I will post up pictures when I get them on the bike, may be a week or so before they come in.

I have no idea what you are talking about. What is it?

its a pad that glues on the tank with nipples on it to give you grip when you push your knees againts the tank. helps you hold on to the bike easier.

I like to grip on nipples. :goofy:

So I went to their site and nothing was listed for a VFR. Where did you see this?

I have them on my bike, but they are clear. I will upload a picture to show all of you. Give me a few moments to get pictures.

They are the same as F4i grips!

The catalog at the shop lists the 6th gen VFR kit. Yes, I know it is not on the Stomp Grip website but the shop got a new catalog and it is listed. I will post up the kit number when I get them.

i have used the stomp grip on my track bikes and they work great. i always thought it was ugly though. i just recently bought these for my new track bike:

the snake skins look a lot nicer to me in the pics. i'll let you know how they work as i should have them by this weekend for the track.

Agreed with the above poster, I thought that the Stomp Grips were a nice idea, but ugly. I got a Tech Skins kit meant for the ST1300, cut it down and beveled the cut edges using a bench grinder (they tell you to do that if you cut the skins down); mine are this sort of pebbled finish, not unlike a spray-on bed liner in a pickup truck. Decently grippy and I think they look decent.

I also have the tech-spec snakeskin pads. They do make a Gen 6 specific kit as seen below. Fit great and I have removed them from one bike to another a few times with out loosing any of the grip.

Yes, I realize it's not exactly pretty but I wear a one piece Olympia phantom. I have friends who run tech spec and it can chew up their leathers and textile suits. I have them on my SVS and they provide great grip with the suit on, thus they are going on the VFR. I ride entirely too much to worry entirely about looks, this bike is my workhorse and the Stomp Grips provide the traction I need on the tank without chewing up my $500 suit.

I trimmed a universal set of S.G. to fit and like the extra grip I get for turns a lot.

As a added bonus I recently discovered another very useful tip. As the miles start adding up on a ride and your pants are crawling up your legs cramping "your style", You know how you'll either stand on your pegs and shake or hang a leg off to make the pant material drop?

Simply grip your tank with your both knees and slide your ass toward the back a few times if you need. Breathing room is restored! AHHH! :fing02:

stomp grips mess up leathers too. i think physics is at play....higher friction equals higher grip equals higher wear....doesn't mater which product you use

I haven't noticed any tearing or abnormal wear on pants (jeans, dress pants, or motorcycle specific pants) after installing the Tech Skins on my VFR. I'm not using the snakeskin finish though, maybe they're different enough to cause problems, but I'm glad I bought my ST1300-type kit and cut to fit.

Has anyone tried the high fusion version? I thought about just using skateboard grip tape...

Questions from a rider of yellow 5th gen ('stich, textile and leather wearer). I'm sliding way too much:

Any 5th gen users of either product (StompGrip, Techspec)? Use would be road, not track.

Preferences? Why?

If Techspec, which material is preferable? Why?

Which Techspec kit would work best (least/none trimming) on 5th gen, as I saw no specific one for 5th gen on website?

And yes, looks are important, as I would guess both products offer good/improved grip.

The latest issue of one of the bike mags (Motor Cyclist I think) had great things to say about the snake skin version...grippy enough but did NOT scratch up leathers. I am going to go with those...

I've used the universal kit for years. With careful preparation/installation, the grips stay put. :cool:

I have the TechSpec kit on my 5th gen, (ordered the full kit, years listed are like 2001-08, it works) and I noticed the tank pad in the center does rub on my jacket a little and the leather is wearing.....I adjusted the pad a little higher to see what happens. But over all I like them. they had sent me the High Fusion set by accident but sent my the correct set.

Kit # 674119, also made for the 2001-2006 CBR600F4i. I'll post up pictures when I get them on tomorrow night.

now having used the tech spec and the stomp grip (only briefly), my first feed back is:

if you have them that means you are squeezing hard on the tank. the tech specs actually feel better as the points on the stop grip literally hurt my legs sometimes.
both stayed in place and both worked fine for actual grip
the stomp grip has worn my leathers on the inside of the knee. i would be amazed if the tech spec did it MORE then the stomp grip.

Yeah, I highly recommend these guy's over the Stompgrip. I met one of the owners last week at the trackday me & my wife went to. And all I can say is great things about their products. He even put a set on my wifes bike to test out, then let her keep them after. So I ordered a set for the VFR on Tues & another set for hers. They look much better than the Stompgrip (they're two different styles to choose from) we chose the "High Fusion Tread". I'll post up some pic's too. When I get them installed this weekend. :biggrin:

Yup, count me in too. I just ordered the snake skin version for my new Triumph. Sounds like the perfect combo of grip, appearance, and safety for the leathers.

OK Guy's just got the Tech-Spec pads today! All I can say is "Wow" They look great & were easy to install.

Are the High Fusion pads tacky at all? I felt the Snake Skin pads on someone's bike, and I was surprised to find that they weren't really tacky at all.

Yeah, Seb. Very Tacky! I love them. Going riding tomorrow. So I'll let you know how they work. :biggrin:

Just did my first ride (on my Daytona) with the Snake Skin version. Very good. Easy to grip with the knees...looks good...easy to apply...stays put...not tacky to the touch but enough of a grip to hold onto and I do not think it will wear the leathers.
