Paint

I'm wanting to repaint my right side fairing after lowsiding 3 weeks ago. I'm going to try to repaint it myself. Where is the best place to get a spray paint that is going to look decent and match the rest of my fairings pretty close. Also, where is a good resource to look at prepping the fairings to paint them?

Screw color rite...good color match, but go to any autobody shop and have them take a picture of your paint..they can color match it almost perfectly for a 1/5 of the price of colorrite.com.

The color-rite stuff is way overpriced, but at least it will match. I tried the autobody route with my CBR. I took a good panel to the local autobody supply that I deal with all the time. They used their color camera and it came up as a match for Hydroplanes Inc. (Ms Budweiser Red). They mixed me a pint in Dupont Cromabase. It wasn't even close to matching, I mean not even close. IMO the color camera should be used as a last resort only. It's not cheaper if you have to paint it twice, and they can't guarantee a match.

Haven't gone Dupont. Color-wrong sucks. That's why my codes. Lots of variables, But I will guarentee, that code, within 2 shades. Been told, it's the best match, on the forum.

Has anyone tried the Duplicolor paints that you can get a Autozone? If so, how were your results?

Does anyone know what color would closest match the 2003 Silver?

just remember spray paint is not gas or solvent safe!!

There was a GM color, that matched R-157, Not sure about any of the silvers. Metallics are real touchy.

I've tried that one years ago on my first 4gen. I sourced it from the auto parts store touch up pens selection and it ain't close enough IMO (too dark). Color-rite now offers touch up pens and works well. If your panels are sun faded, mix of old and new, etc., then yes, a pre-mixed paint isn't going to match perfectly.
