Gps Power Options

I just recently got my first GPS and I'm going to be using it between the car and bike. I have seen pictures where some of you seem to have the power connection via what looks like a aux/cigarette type jack in the center button. This looks like a great way to wire it, but I haven't been able to find any info on how it's done or what parts are needed. I did a search but can't seem to come up with the info. Can anyone please explain or give a how to on how to accomplish this. I bought a Garmin 760 on closeout to get me started in the GPS world, eventually I would be moving up to a Zumo, well, I would like to anyway.

He'll get you fixed up with everything you could possibly need in the electrical department for your VFR.

^^^ Yep. The steering stem mount Powerlet is how I power my GPS. Very nice and Tightwad's prices are pretty damn good! :fing02:

I was not familiar with tightwads set up at the time some this is how I did mine. I used a standard 12v car outlet and some bar aluminum for the mount. It works for me.

Powerlet makes nice clean mounts....both electrical connections as well as actual physical mounts. I can provide pretty good pricing on Powerlet items, as well as any VFR customization needed.

Thanks for the help guy's. The Powerlet steering mount looks like the way to go.

I ended up tieing mine in to the parking/running lights circuit since I was doing some work in that area anyway. The Zumo motorcycle mount comes with just a pigtail end, and it also includes a suction cup mount with a lighter plug on it for cage use.

I have the powerlet tied to a aux fusebox. I actually run my GPS from a hardwire to the same fusebox.
