When I first started riding the Interprize, I learned the engine would die when I pulled in the clutch to shift if the temperature was less than 58 degrees and the engine rpm was above 6K. Usually, it was a rare happenstance however; I typically shift gears just below this VTEC engagement rpm.
However, this past weekend at high altitude in the Rocky Mountains the problem occurred too often and became an annoyance. (Yes, I was doing a lot of hard acceleration!)
The motor certainly did not like the 85 octane so I used the mid-grade of 87 or 88 which is recommended in the owner's manual.
I was pleased with the bike's performance once we entered Arkansas Monday night in the foggy high humidity on the Interstate. (922 miles on Monday) I thought it strange to see such a marked difference in performance.
Anyway, based upon the above symptoms I am wondering if anyone else has seen the same issues. I am aware of aftermarket upgrades but I have always been reluctant to alter engine operation.
I have always serviced the bike according to the OEM schedule. However, I have heard something about synchronizing the starter valves but have no idea how this is done or why.
Any thoughts? A friend says I may have a bad cold start sensor.
