Backrest Install W/pics

My first post!

I recently bought an 02 that came with a Corbin seat and wanted to get a backrest for my wife. I headed to the Corbin website to locate the appropriate model for my seat only to discover they do not ship to Canada. I searched for a reseller in Canada and found a few that could get the Large Ovalbac backrest, but wanted over $300.00 CDN for it. Nice backrest, but not worth that kind of money. So I searched the Internet and found a company in Minnesota, Harrison Specialties, that makes a 12"x10" backrest that fits the Corbin seat. The price was much more reasonable at $89.99 USD, so I ordered one. The backrest arrived in about a week via USPS, total cost was $150.00 CDN including shipping and taxes.

I thought I would take a few pictures of the backrest and installation in case anyone else has a Corbin seat and was looking for a reasonably priced backrest.

Build quality seems pretty good. Has a carbon fiber look.

The backrest mounts into the 5/8" hole in the Corbin seat. The stem is 4.5" long.

The supplied bolt was a little long. I may pickup a shorter bolt so that it fits snug.

The backrest seems a bit far forward to me, this setting is adjusted as upright as possible. Will have to see what my wife thinks tomorrow when we head out for a quick ride to the lake and back.

I thought the 12x10 size might look huge on the bike, but it doesn't look to bad once mounted.

Will post again with initial riding experience tomorrow.

Welcome Aboard!! That looks like it should work well for her. Seems a little angled, but remember that the pillion typically is arched forward to the
driver. Not too ofter (or safe) for them to be reclining back in the lazy boy while in motion.

I bought them from a fellow that sold his VFR as stock. He had the pipes, O2 Eliminators, K&N, and PCIII with custom dyno map with all of these items installed. I road the bike stock for a few days to see what kind of changes the mods would make. LOVE the sound of the pipes and the PCIII has all but eliminated the VTEC kick.

7Just curious if you have ridden with a passenger and new backrest. If so, is that too big of a backrest. The site where you bought it from offers a 7"x7" size of the same backrest.

I thought the backrest looked a bit too big also but my wife loves it! We went for a ride to the lake and back (80km total). I was much more comfortable as well because I could accelerate without feeling like she would fly off the back. I also found that we did not hit helmets even once. The 7x7 size would likely work just as well, but since I only install the backrest when my wife rides the larger size seemed better.

Overall, very happy and the price was less than half of the Corbin backrest.
