Going To The Dark Side

So it's official, tickets to Denver are purchased, bike is purchased, old 5th gen is in insurance limbo, and I need to ride. I'm kind of excited about trying this new bright and shiny dark cherry in the Colorado mountains on the way home. Being a gear head I'm not to sure about this VTEC business, but I'm sure by the third or fourth curve with my knee sticking out it will all be good.

7600 OTD, which is about $3500 less than buying local including cost of airfare, plus it was perfect timing with holidays and wanting to ride some curves. Pics will posted asap

What about import?

Including duty, which is 6.5% it's still that much less, I was quoted $13640 tax in here Canadian dollars, I will land the Denver bike for about $10000 tax and duties paid Canadian. Our dollar is quite strong at the moment which makes this possible.

Yup, thats half the reason I did this, making darn sure I have ride, 5th gen is at dealer waiting for a quote that could take as long as three weeks, so if it takes three weeks just to get a quote it would be till the end of summer before I'd see the bike if they decide to fix it, not, I want to ride, my season is short enough as it is.

Congrats man, I love that colour...almost as much as the white one for 09.

I obviously missed something, what happened to your silver 01, whys it in the shop waiting an estimate?

All the way to Denver? couldnt find a better deal in Seattle or somwhere closer?

I'm straight north of you HS, with direct flights to Denver, Seattle is a lot farther away, Saskatoon Sask is home, so I'll have fun in your backyard then hit some fun curves around the Blackhills in South Dakota

It's a lot easier to bring them into Canada than to take them out.

Although the duty is cheaper to bring them into the U.S. you can't do the paperwork without an importer license, which is major money. Much less paperwork, much less hassle from U.S. to Canada than the other way around.

And I've always thought of going to the dark side as switching to a BMW, not a 6th gen...

Great purchase....................it's rumor but it has been said,when your knee is down the bike stays above the transition zone.................I'm gonna' go out right know and prove this. :biggrin:

Hey Darren - I was at a dealer in Waterloo today, they had the new white / black VFR with the black frame, etc. $14,400 was the marked DOWN price. You did very well!!

I asked the guy here if they were getting any incentives from Mother Honda - and he said that they were - but only on year old - or older stock.

You should come a bike as well, just so you can sell once you get home, easy $1000 bucks and vacation paid for.

Very pleasant suprise this morning at the Customs office, I was just there to verify I had all the proper paperwork. In talking to the officer I was corrected on the duty, THERE IS NO DUTY ON STREET MOTORCYCLES.

Seems that there is interest in bringing bikes back from the US, so when I'm done I will put together a complete report for anybody else interested in doing the same.

Come to the DARK SIDE...we've got cookies!

Congrats on the new bike. I think you'll love the VTEC...a nice change midway through the power band...love that BARK it makes!

When (1975) I first road into Denver from Colorado Springs (the Parker road), Parker was one service station, I didn't see anything else till I got to Hampden & Parker, then nothing again until Yale and Quebec..... I-225 wasn't there...... Ah the good old days..... Monk

I had seen Sun's ads here with that price listed for a new '07 and wondered if there was some sort of hidden fees. Then I was up in northern Wisconsin last week at Northwoods Honda and they had a left over '08 for $9999. with a "special" $600 addtional off. I talked to the guy for a bit but he wasn't budging at all. + no ABS either. Sun seems to top that.

Picked up my bike yesterday then hit the colorado hills with HS, there were no hidden fees, and I had a blast with HS showing me his backyard, even if there was rain. Pics will have to wait until I get home, or HS gets home.
