Gentlemen We Have A Winnner !

So I think I finally found a bike. Let me lay this on you and see what you think ...

2003 VFR, silver (not my favorite color but not my last choice either)
non ABS (still not sure about that part)
Almost 12.000 miles
2nd owner

The mods on the bike are:

Power Commander (how do I figure out what map is on it currently ?)
Two Brothers performance exhaust
K&N air filter
Performance front springs
Performance rear strut (spring and shock assembly)
Fender eliminator kit
Double Bubble smoked windscreen

The accessories are:

Soft saddle bags and seat bag
Tank Bag
Rotor lock
Accessory bag with tire pump and pressure gauge.
Rear Seat Cover (Body color)
Stock front springs and rear shock
Service Manual
Battery maintainer

This bike has been laid down at a low speed, the fairing was replaced and the nose cone has a 3/4 crack that is hard enough to find I will wait a season to deal with it I think.

All in $5,000

What do you think ? I would have loved a Asphalt black but I only found one in almost a month of looking and it still was a non ABS model. It seems to me that there is a non ABS to ABS ratio of VFRs of about 5:1 which makes finding the perfect color with ABS real tough. I dont like that its been down but its not a write off, I am a rookie rider so who knows :blink: l, and next Spring I might just fix that nose cone and paint the whole damn thing Asphalt Black ! :cool:

Hopefully picking her up mid week next week, then she can sit in my garage for a few weeks while I head to Europe. Now I need to source a set of Suzuki signal mirrors to go with the Darth Bling mirror mounts I should see in my mailbox this week !

Sounds pretty good to me, although color is the most expensive part to change, not counting the ABS of course.

Lots of extras and low miles, as long as you don't mind taking care of the crack and it being the wrong color its a great find :fing02:

Get it! She's worth at least $500 more than that. Regarding the map, I would just replace it with one of your own, unless the owner shows you that it has been custom dyno tuned.

You can examine the map using the software and compare it to another one, but otherwise I would use Cozye's, you can find it in the downloads section.

If it helps, I just paid $5400 for an ABS model with 0 accessories.

Oh! But be careful about the springs. The reason for changing springs is not that the stock springs are bad, but that the stock springs are set up for someone about 160 pounds, and if you weigh more you need stiffer ones. So if you weigh a lot less than the previous owner, the ride may be way too stiff and harsh, even to the point of poor traction. But if you're about hte same weight you're good to go! :)

Changing out springs isn't expensive if you do it yourself.

"This bike has been laid down at a low speed" Not too fond of that part. Is the frame straight? Forks? Did it hit anything? All worth researching.

Oh, and the radiators! a lowspeed crash could mess them up.

Now you guys are just trying to freak him out. i'm sure if there were a poll, an overwhelming majority of our bikes will have been on their side at one point or another whether it's in the garage, driveway, low speed or high speed.

Thanks all for the advice, I will give the bike a good once over when I see it in person next week.

The silver is growing on me, it was my 2nd choice color anyways.

@Ryanme17: I am 220lbs so the upgraded springs might be a nice added bonus ! And thanks for sharing your price, I figured I was getting the extras in the place of ABS more or less. Like I said earlier getting the perfect color (which is rare to begin with) with ABS is seeming like a needle in a haystack.

Thankfully BC Canada vehicles are the most expensive in North America so based on the exchange and the local market I could likely buy, import and paint the bike and still sell it at a break even !

Well, let me just say one thing. Not sure how much you want ABS and what your priorities are, but you can't change a bike that does not have ABS. If you were looking for a bike with it, the paint can be taken care of, and so can the other extras. Just saying. Good luck, and you won't regret it.

That's true, I looked at several bikes that had been down without giving that all that much thought, to be honest. As long as it's fixed, it's pretty much as good as new. I'm not saying don't buy it for that reason, just check to make sure it has been fixed properly.

AND, I came very close to buying a non-ABS bike with more miles, and none of those accessories (except the bags) for $5300. That is an excellent deal. :fing02:

And, I probably looked at 100 ads between local ads, VFRD, Craigslist, VFRWorld, Ebay, and Cycletrader, and maybe only 5 of those had ABS. If you want ABS, then wait for it, but it certainly is rare.

You should get as much info from the seller as you can. You should just ask him what map is on the Power Commander, what spring rate the springs are, what was fixed after the accident, etc.

Oh, and one last thought, when the bikes go down at low speed, sometimes the brackets that the lower fairing bolts mount to break off. This is easy to check, if the bolts are there and line up properly you're good to go. Other things that hit during a fall like mirrors, bar ends, front brake or clutch lever, shift or brake lever, and passenger pegs are easy to inspect, and not expensive to replace if need be.

My last bike had actually fallen on both sides, I had to buy new mirrors, I was able to bend the levers back, and didn't care one bit about a few scratches on the bar ends and passenger pegs.

I'd go for it if I were you. If you don't, someone else on here probably will! :)

I picked up an '04 with 632 miles on it a year and a half ago for $5000.

I picked up an '03 with 7000km on it - box stock - with a few scuffs on the lower fairing from the owner dropping it in his garage for $5500. They all selling for that price with 30,000km + out here in Ontario.

Sounds like a GREAT buy with all the mods, cosmetic stuff is the easiest to fix or change! :biggrin:

Do you know what weight rider the bike is set-up for? That could cost a few hundred extra to get the springs changed out for your weight! :cool:

And also $1000 more and without any of the farkles... No offense, but it's a buyer's market, and though you can maybe get this price, there are much better deal's to be had for someone who wants to look around. Lot of people desperate for cash.

Unless by full Two Brother's exhaust you mean it actually has the TBR headers, and not just the slip-ons?

And yet again a nice bike (minus those flamey stickers) and WAY too far away from me, when I add $600 in shiping an east Coast bike is out of the question.

I think the suspension was setup for the first owner and owner #2 got it this way so I dont know if we will ever know what its setup for. Besides I have a very good friend thats a total bike guru so with enough beer I can get mechanical/maintenance work done cheap.
