Yes, but that's only the opening price, and may be why it's still for sale. . The selling price is what matters.

Is that U.S. funds? Yeah, way high. I just paid 11,200 Canadian last month,Honda had a $3500 rebate on it. They're available in Tennessee for $8499.

Way too high for a 2 1/2 year old bike. As other mentioned, the key is not the asking price, but the OTD price (taxes, doc's, etc...)

I've seen them on EBay & at dealers for the mid 8's

Way too high for a 2 1/2 year old bike. As other mentioned, the key is not the asking price, but the OTD price (taxes, doc's, etc...)

Mid 8's is for nonABS models. But, yes, that is still way high.

I got the red 07 for $8499 and the last time I looked the still had the RWB for $8000 and the red for $8499 in TN. See the link below then go to the right side of the screen and click on motorcycle deals. Looks like they still have 1 RWB and 4 candy dark red as of 05/20/09.

I just bought a new one with ABS in PA. for 7999

Oh yeah, way high. There's two RWBs in town I know of. Both ABS models, one at $9k the other at $8.5k. I'm in the Portland, Oregon area. You don't have your profile filled in so I don't know how far away you might be, but if you're west of the Rockies it would be a nice ride back.

Run some searches on http://www.cycletrader.com/ where it seems to me there are an awful lot of dealers trying to move quite a lot of inventory one or more years old. I've been monitoring 2005-2008 prices there for two months or so and believe mid-8's to be the baseline. Case in point: there's one new '05 still in the showroom advertised for $8400

Are there any other sites with as many new models advertised?

That is WAY too high of a price. If I walked into a dealerships and saw that price I would have laughed and walked right back out the door. I picked up my new cherry red '07 w/ ABS for $7,500 in April. There are some great deals out there for VFRs.

That could be the answer but since we were talking 07s I just made the assumption that S is the new R and it stood for red. :biggrin:

I got mine (RWB ABS) new from Lawrenceville Honda in GA last month for $9639 OTD. Look on www.cycletrader.com and there are plenty in the $8-9K range.

Yes, it's really not a typo, more like a brain fart (SWB vs RWB). That said, many got my point. Anyway, I owned a 96 VFR. It was my second bike, and to this day it is still one of my favorites. I'm thinking about buying another, and thought the 07' RWB ABS would be the one. I'm told that Honda NA is out of the 09's - I like the white and black! . I haven't updated my profile..I'm located in Madison, IN. Currently, I'm riding an 04' R1150 RT. I've owned several bikes (from HD's to Ducs to prillers) since 96, but again, I'll always look back on my 96 VFR with very fond memories. Thanks again to everyone who posted here. I can see that the VFR community - wait it's an Interceptor now, is alive and strong. I hope to buy one soon. When I do, I'll keep you posted.

I just sold my ST 1300 about 20 minutes ago to pay for a 2007 RWB VFR I bought last Thursday. Great bike -- the throttle is a little snatchy compared to the ST, and it feels odd to rev your "touring" bike, but I think I am gonna like it. Thanks to all on this forum for the helpful posts. I am already using many of the informed posts to help me unlock the dual-purpose potential of this bike...and the "Interceptor" paint scheme takes me back to 1983 in such a good way. Thanks again.

I owned a ST1300 also. It was the hottest lump of molten lava I ever threw a leg over. Does the current VFR throw a lot of engine heat? TIA.

Only in traffic/ stop'n go/ in town stuff. At speed out of town I never notice it, even on 90 degree days (60 mph+)

Thank you. Yes, if one threw a credit card in the ST left front dashboard compartment on a 85 degree hot humid day it was melted goo in an hour. That said, I'm a puss when it comes to engine heat. I don't care for it. Many on the ST list never complained. My 96' VFR was never a problem.

Ironox, you're in the market for an '07 and I'm in the market for an '08, I hope you'll agree that adding my experience to your thread enables both of us to come out ahead.

Could there be a significant difference in price buying off the showroom floor versus buying Honda's still crated and warehoused '07 or '08 models? Reason I ask is I just pointed my browser at CycleTrader.com gathered up all the '08 ABS models and hit the phones.

Turns out many bikes listed as current had been sold earlier. A common refrain quickly emerged: Cycletrader doesn't weed their ads.

The one dealer who I find on Cycletrader with an '08 ABS on their showroom floor, indicates it's also got the hardbags I want already installed. "Sweet!" Sales guy takes that as his cue, and turns the question on me: "So this bike is outfitted just the way you want it, eh? How much are you willing to pay then?"

I refuse to bite, insisting there are too many dealers and too many opportunities to ride a bike home from their showrooms to bid for his. Talk to your sales manager and email me your price, dude! :dry: We hang up and he does just that. His email states: This is what I can do for you on my 2008 Honda VFR800 ABS with the hard saddle bags. 10,999 plus 698 for freight and set up. We also charge a 99 documentation fee. Let me know what you think.

So I start Skyping, contacting Honda dealers close to where I'm staying this summer, in Connecticut. Keith, at Willow's Motorsports in Chesire, CT. tells me this " I have nothing in stock but I can order an '08 out of Honda's warehouses and have it here in a week. The price on an '08 ABS would be $14,800 but I'd let it go from $14,000 +tax, +title, +registration." Turns out tax is $739 tax and it's $101 for registration. He also quotes me $13000 [tax,title,registration] for a non-ABS. Sheesh! Keith, you're depressing me. :blush:

Next dealer Skyped: Freehold Honda Triumph, in Freehold NJ. I speak to Bill Reed who emails me the following: "I can get you an abs or non abs in the silver. The non would be $9400 and the abs would be $10300. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks"

MSRP on the '08 ABS is $11,799. MSRP on the bags is $1000 (IIRC). Based on that, $11,796 OTD doesn't seem too bad, at least until you realize that the bags can be had for about $800 shipped from a couple of vendors.

Personally I'd try to find a leftover '07 and save myself a bunch of money. If you could get an '07 for ~$8,500, add bags for $800, you're in for $9,300 and can spend the difference on gear, farkles, or loose women.

From a couple of previous posts it looks like the '08s can be had for ~$9k, so that's still pretty reasonable and much better than some of the offers you've been getting.

I just don't get it, do some dealers not realize their potential client base is way down due to the current economy? Yet they continue to try to get a premium price for every unit. :huh:

It's a mystery to me as well. After calling eight dealers yesterday and getting arrogance from most I'm not sure what to make of it. The seven without a VFR on the floor were all quoting retail prices or couldn't be bothered to give a quote.

Today I'm asking myself - how can I bypass the dealer and buy direct from Honda's warehouse?

Today's four phone calls to dealers turned out to be rather positive. Thank goodness. It may have helped that I limited my search to Honda's designated Powerhouse Dealers nearest my zipcode.

Like several others here, you can always buy whatever new VFR you can get the best deal. Then just buy a new set of asphalt body work and sell your new whatever color bodywork you have, might loose $500-800 or so in exchange then you have a brand new Asphalt VFR or whatever color you want. :cool:
