DAMN DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!!
I just spent the best part of this evening trying to trouble shoot my fan that failed to work today. I found the problem, that rotten shield between the farrings that apparantly protects or hides something had shifted back during an oil change. I hope I'm not the only one that has had this problem, better yet I hope this acts as a "watch out" for those changing their oil and filter.

PS. I now have a fully burped cooling system.
Okay, help me out here. I have over 4000 miles on my bike and have changed the oil and filter 3 times. Are you talking about the black plastic shield that fits between the two fairing pieces?

Whatever it is, it has to be better than having the fan wear through your rad 1500 miles from home on a hot day... :

BTDT. Though it was only 500 miles from home. Funny how you can have a lowside, think that you checked everything out and have the bike rideable again, then find out a few hundred miles later that you were wrong about that...

Sorry for the delay in responding, I've been on the road but have attached a picture of the offensive black plastic shield that fits between the two fairing pieces. Apparently my big hand moved it back while grabbing the oil filter.

:blink: Still have No idea what problem you have and or how the center cowl fairing could affect anything to do with the cooling or fan??????

Okay, that's what I thought you were talking about. If you have a keg in the garage I want to come over for the next oil change party.
I somehow misshaped it while changing my oil filter and it made contact with the outside rim of the fan causing it not to spin. That cowl has less than half inch clearance to the outer ring of the fan. All is well now but thought it might help other banana fingered mechanics out there.
