Which Engine Am I Running?

I recently picked up an '06 pearl white beauty.

It luckily came equipped with a Twin Brothers can, a K&N, PCIII and a custom dyno tune, to give you some background on mods. I did some research on the factory changes made from what I read to be between 2005 and 2006, and expected the vtec engagement to be relatively smooth, and at 6400rpm.

After a long road vacation on the bike, I couldn't help but notice the secondary valves were kicking in at 6800rpm rather than 6400, bringing me to my question: Did Honda release early 2006 models with the ECU and secondary valve engagement point from late 2005 models, or am I missing something?

Thanks

If you're missing it, then I'm missing it too. Always thought yours would kick in at 6,400rpm.

I set my idle using my laptop and the PCIII software, because the tach on my '05 reads about 150 rpm high. So I "feel" the VTEC engagement at about 7K...

I've also noticed that a modified/enriched fuel map can really make the engagement even more pronounced that stock...i.e., if the technician dialed a lot of fuel in that area then it's very possible that the hit is more pronounced. Try running a zero fuel map just to see where the VTEC engages...?

Does your bike have a white face Tach around the edge? Does it have clear turn signals?

If the answer to those questions is no then you have an 05 or under bike REG in 06.

Do this or unplug the PC3 and see where it kicks in. This will answer your questions real quick! :fing02:
